Rome is a 365 day city - it does not make much difference when you come. The weather is the only thing to worry about. In summer it can get really hot and unpleasant to wander around, so April, May, September, October are ideal. However Christmas time in Rome is nice...the city is never quiet in winter or summer. |

i went at the start of feb. it was great, because there wern't lines for things, and u were still able to see all the attractions minus the many tourists.
the weather was nice, it wasnt freezing, although it was winter. i was able to get away with just jeans and a long sleave top during the day. |

rome is fantastic all days but i think that the best time of year are autumn or spring. in that period u can go everywhere, there is the sun but is not to hot, there aren't a lot tourist. u could visit Rome like who live in Rome and, main thing, without queue. |

The only time of year NOT to go to Rome is July and August - it's horribly hot and most of the residents are on vacation.
I would think Spring would be the best time (in general), because you'll probably want to do a lot of walking and that way it won't be too hot. |

You will find that July and August are hot, and many Romans are on vacation, but that also makes the city less crowded and easier to see.
The most popular times for people to go are in May, September and October. My favorite is Christmas!
For what it is worth, I operate a tour company in the US that exclusively does tours in the area just north of of Rome, so I say this based on my own experiences with our guests.

I was just there in February. Short lines, easy to book any hotel, and 60 degrees outside. |
