Rome, Italy in February...? |
Will there be long lines at the Colosseum and Sistine Chapel and all the tourist places? Should I book tours in advance because I don't want to wait hours in line. What will it be like in February? |

Hi , February is not one of the high season months in Rome, but Rome is on every ones list so there will be lines and waits at some of the major attractions like the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum, and of course the Villa Borghese. You can book the Villa Borghese on line, pay for your ticket and print it out then all you have to do is show up during your time frame window. Waiting outside for any sight during February is bound to be chilly or wet or both. I found this great article about lesser known places to visit in Rome....called Off the Beaten Path Rome........A church where you can take stairs down to another church under street level, and then from that church you can take more stairs down to a Roman temple and house all underground, or how about a church crypt decorated with monk's bones?

sistine chapel is always busy at whatever time of year, and check before you go if it's even open.. sometimes the pope's doing stuff in there
other attractions no problems. |

You should have no trouble in February - definitely not the tourist season. I once visited in April and there were no lines anywhere. I've also visited during the summer - and the lines were LONG. Good luck. |

Things are always going to be busy, no matter what time you go. But February is definatly one of the best times to go, its a lot less crowded. I wouldnt pay anything in advance to set up tours. When you get there you can negotiate prices. If one seems too high go to the next person, everyone speaks english so it is not hard...if you dont already know the phrase for do you speak english it is "tu parla inglese" and if you want to know where something is, "Dove" means where. And if you are a student they give you student discounts anywhere that you go, as long as you have a student id. When you go to the vatican museum it is worth it to pay the 50 euros for the tour, you will cut through the huge line that wraps around the building. It seems expensive but it is worth it definatly. Make sure that you also find a tour guide that speaks very good english, you do not want to sit there wondering what hes saying every five seconds. Not saying anything bad about italians, its amazing how well they all know english, but ur paying all this money for a tour, you want to get all you can out of it. |
