Rome city ticket? |
I'm going to be in Rome for a week and I was wondering if there are tickets that can be used for free public transportation(buses, metro, etc.), discounts/free access to monuments and discounts to some restaurants. I know that most big cities in Europe have something like this. Does Rome have this or something similar? |

Hello,
There is a weekly bus/metro pass you can get and also the roma pass which includes a transportation pass. This allows you into the first ttwo museums for free and offers discount admission into the others. It also includes the bus, trams and metro If you plan on visiting lots of museums, this is the way to go. It is valid at more than 40 monuments, museums and sites. Some of the sites it includes are the ara pacis, the capitolini museum, the planetarium and the colosseum. It is valid for 3 days from when you first use it. It costs 20 euros for the 3 days.
This is a really good deal as going to two of these sites usually pays for the pass.
You probably won't use the metro as much as you think. Rome is very small and walkable and with the traffic , the busses take longer sometimes than walking and waiting on the metro can be the same.

You can buy from tabaccheria,(means where they sell cigarettes etc)or by the automatic machines. The cost of the bus is 1 euro, and the cost of the train from Leonardo da Vinci airport to the station Termini 9 euros.
Attention, never buy from people who sell it in the street. You ahve to see also that it is marked on it the company of transfers.. |

This is all great info, however it was my experience that only tourists buy tickets for the trams and buses (hm maybe all he natives had passes intead of tickets but I kind of doubt it) -- so i stopped buying day tickets after the first couple of days there -- you do need to buy tickets for the metro and for buses that go out of town...I don't know about restaurant discounts, but if you are any kind of food afficionado, you wouldn't want to eat at a place that gives tourist discounts -- |

Sneak into a Borders or Barnes&Noble and look at a touring book. They will tell you. |

Yes. There's a Rome City Card (Roma Pass) that's good for three days from the first use. It costs around 25 euro. You get free admission to two or three places (your choice from the list provided with the card). After that, you get discounted admission everywhere else. It's also good for all the public transportation. |
