Humid, hot in the sun. Rome consists of beautiful ancient monuments and is built and survives on its antiquity- the only time this is a problem is in the summer, because cobblestones weren't meant to keep things cool or even warm them up. The streets are cold in the winter and hot in the summer. There's not a lot of shade, because the city is so metropolitan, so bring tank tops, shorts, but good shoes to roam around in! You'll be doing a lot of walking. And bring a nalgene- italians aren't big on water, and most of what you'll find is mineral "frizzante," or bubbly water- which doesn't quite quench your thirst. Bring your own bottle and feel free to fill it up in any fountain- the water in Rome is more pure than pretty much anything you'll find- One, it's from aqueducts that have been functioning since the 1st century AD (cool huh?) and two, Benedict blesses all the water, so where can you go wrong? :) Seriously the water is safe to drink everywhere. All the fountains have spouts specifically for drinking. Go 'head and fill up!

It's better then July or early august and it's not so hot (September will be better) You coul find also some rain.

Its going to be quite hot, but as long as you keep hydrated it shouldn't be unbearable.

Rome is extremely hot at the end of August. (Hottest time of the year) I suggest you drink lots of water and take at least 2 showers a day.

I went to Rome last July and it was very hot, but in the evening we did have some rain which cooled it down. I think the end of August will be hot so be prepared with the ole suncream and glasses and drink plenty of water. Also wear comfy shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking. You will have a great time!

It can be treacherously hot and humid and crowded.
Drink lots of water, stay indoors during day and come out in the evening when it cools.

It will be very hot but not unbearable. Take a small plastic bottle that will fit into your bag. There are drinking fountains everywhere so you can fill it all day long. Visit lots of churches they have marble floors fantastic to slip off your shoes for a moment...

I believe it will be rather hot! Apply lots of sunscreen of Factor 30 at least regularly, drink lots of water I have a hydration system day sack which is great for holidays like this as you don't need to stop to take out your water! There are lots of fountains in Rome too.

~Yes, it will be very hot in Rome then but that's not the only problem. Most urban Italian families, shops and restaurants close for the month of August to go to the beaches. Rome is no exception. Usually, the main tourist (read expensive and not real Italian experience) places stay open with reduced hours. Also, many places in Italy do not have air conditioning. Most of the big tourist (i.e., expensive) hotels do.

In Rome, the storms and wind patterns seem to come from Africa. Hot and Dry. If you are from America, get used to the fact that there isn't fast food restaurants on each corner. Water is not free. So bring water(if you can freeze half the container the day before and then w/water before you travel) and small snacks to keep your energy going. Even though Italy is a romantic country there still is modesty. Shorts and sandles are fine but cover your shoulders...something that can be easily removed...especially if you are going to visit any of the Catholic churches.

i've been there at the beginning of june and it's already been quite hot then...at the end of august it'll probably be hot during the day but cool of a bit during the night.
eat lots of ice-cream (yummy!) and drink lots of water! :-)

Yes, it will be hot, high 80's and low 90's possible. Some solutions:
1. Make sure your hotel is air conditioned
2. do all your touring in the morning and take a liesurely lunch and sieta, as the italians do. (In fact Italian businesses generally close in August for summer holidays.)
3. Go to the Italian beach at Fregene or Ostia.
4. Find a communal pool for those really hot days
5. Go to a nearby lake (Bolsena is only an hour away)
