Rome hotels? |
In Rome July 23-26. Should we reserve a room or can we just get last minute specials like in London? There, you can see placards out on sidewalks advertizing pretty low rates starting 3 - 4 pm for unreserved rooms that night. In Rome, we want to stay NE of Stazione Termini - or in any quiet but accessible area. Near $100/night for 2 - so we don't need fancy. What's our best bet? Thanks! |

I would book a room. Summer time is high season and it will be difficult to find rooms in Rome. Not mention the cost of the rooms.
Here is some information I can give for rooms near the station.
The area around Termini station is perfectly fine.Keep your money in a money belt out of sight or in your front pocket and walk with purpose and you will have no problems. Always beware of your surroundings. You must be careful in any place in the world.
If you plan to use the station, don't hesitate to stay nearby
Here are a couple of hotels that I can recommend:
St. Moritz Hotel
51 Via Nazionale
Rome 00184 Italy
Tel.+ 39 06-48-68-90
Fax: +39 06-47-40-097
The Hotel St.Moritz is a 3-star accommodation located in the centre of Rome in a beautiful building dating back to the 19th century
Breakfast included
Price range 65 Euros to 250 Euros all year around

Hotel Italia
Via Venezia, 18
Roma, 00184
Tel.+39 06-482-8355
Fax +39 06-745-550
http://www.hotelitaliaroma.com/...
It is situated in the heart of historic Rome. Near the Spanish Steps, Fountain of Trevi, Termini station and the Colosseum. It located 3 blocks from Termini station. Breakfast included
Price Range 50 Euros to 200 Euros
I personally have stayed at the Hotel St. Moritz and Hotel Italia. I haven't stayed at the Hotel St. Moritz in many years. I like the location of the Hotel Italia and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I have stayed there several times. The hotel is not fancy, but I really enjoyed staying there.
***Some words of advice: Read reviews on the hotels, B&B's etc, where you are thinking of staying.
Additional information
***The 110 Bus--This is a good way to get an overview of the city, but don't expect a full blown tour...the attractions are highlighted using a prerecorded message in several different languages (they provide headphones). I would only recommend this bus if you're nervous about getting around the city on your own. I would suggest using this tour on the first day you arrive so you can get an overview of the city and try to get your bearings. You can buy the tickets at Termini station. The cost is about 13 euros for a hop on/hop off tour or 8 euors for a non stop tour.
***It is well worth it. I rode the 110 Bus to get around the city when the distances to walk were too far. It is cheaper than a cab/taxi ride. You can get on and off all day.

I would DEFINITELY recommend that you book before you go!! Rome's hotels are busy all year round but in the summer they are liable to be packed out.
I have been there four times, the first hotel I wouldn't recommend but the next three times I stayed in the Hotel Lirico. It is beside the opera house, 5 mins from Termini and very central to everything.
The website is www.hotelirico.com. It was very reasonable, clean with modern facilites and the staff were great. There are also loads of great neighbourhood trattorias and pizzerias in the area which are unbelievably cheap! Especially along Via dei Serpenti, just off Via Nazionale.
Wherever you decide to stay, have an amazing time, I'm so jealous, I adore Roma!! ;-) |
