Rome in March....?

I went to Rome in March and loved it. You will need to pack a coat, scarf, gloves and umbrella. I wore nice pants or jeans with a cute top or sweater which went from day to night. This way I did not have to rush back to my hotel to change for dinner. Comfortable shoes are a must because you will walk everywhere (or learn the bus + subway system which are easy). You will take the coat & gloves on and off througout the day but will need them in Rome. It usually rained in the early morning and was cold by sunset (30-40 F).

When you go to the Vatican Museum arrive by 8am or you will be standing in line forever. The Vatican & St. Peter's have lines too but it's not so bad. Don't wear a mini skirt or sleeve less top because you are not allowed in dressed that way. You need reservations to enter Galleria Borghese because they only allow a number of people in each day. This museum is located in a park setting with about 8 other museums (Etruscan, Modern) and villas.This park has trails, bikers, families, ponds, skaters, cafe, iec cream, etc. I believe it over looks Piazza di Popolo and it's 2 churches (nice especially if you read Angels & Demons). If you go to Il Pincio you can reach the Spanish Steps and have an incredible view of the city. My favorite view of Rome is from the top of St. Peter's Basilica (worth the climb). I saw everything there was to see and can't wait to return to see things that are off the beaten track.

Rome is Rome year round. Some people only see summer Rome. Fewer see Rome in the winter. It is not any less "Rome" in March than July. Arguably is is, by percentage of population, more "Rome" as there are fewer tourist.

Go and enjoy.

Enjoy not sweating in the sun.

Enjoy not waiting in long lines.

Enjoy being able to get a table.

The Romans have been spending their Marches there for centuries.

Just beware the Ides ;)

it is true that most museum are closed in march, but is also true rome is a big and plently city, i think you can experience your trip without any problem
the most important monument are always open, so you can lost some particular exposition or some little museum, but the most are open all the year

when you will be in the forum (is this the english name for the 'fori romani'?)
don't forget to go to the 'zecca' the palace when romans were usually to coin theyr money. It burned once and if you scrap with your foot you can still see some little green circles, These circles are old burned coins, i think is one of the most interesting thing in the fori

Hello,

March is a wonderful time to see Rome. Everything is open so you will have no problems. The crowds will be less and the weather should be cool, however, this past March they did experience record high temperatures (70-80 degrees instead of low 60's). Make sure to pack things that can be layered in case this happens to you.

Just as a reminder, the vatican museum is closed on Sundays with the exception of the last sunday of the month. Then it is free and very crowded. Other than that, no closings around Rome.

Helloâ€¦ it is true to Rome in March many museums are sluices, but not allâ€¦ because they are opened or in order to make gite for the schools or extensions. I would advise the month to you of first June because the prices are not much high and then because nearly all the museums and tourist attractions are openedâ€¦ If I can give a council to you visits also Verona the city of the love where you can visit the arena, the house of Romeo and Giulietta, the scaligeri museums, diggings and many beautiful storeesâ€¦ hour salute I hope to you not to have made too many errorsâ€¦ hello a salute from Martina and Italy

Everything you'll want to see will be open.

Many museums/attractions are closed on Mondays - but even walking around is amazing. Your first view of the Colessum will take your breath away.

I always preferr Europe during the fall/winter months - the locals are much more relaxed when they aren't overwhelmed with to many tourists so you get much better attention.

yes museums are only open during tourist season:
12 month a year!
you will find everything open,
(the only problem in march is the rain)
