Rome on my own...? |
I will be on a Business trip in Rome for 10 days next week. I know that my Hotel is near the Muratella metro stop which looks to be a little bit further out I guess?
Even though I will be working most of the time, I am hoping to take advantage of my trip to Rome and see some sights.
Any tips for a female travelling on her own, who would like to make the most of the little bits of time she will have to experience Rome ?
Thanks in advance! |

your hotel should have organised bus tours, if you have time, there are some by Appin line, or something, there is Rome by Night, Trips to the vatican, and one whch takes in all historical sights of Rome.
You are in with a small group of people, and the tour guide always checks no one goes missing so its safe for a single woman too!
Bus is the best way to do it, you see more, you have a tour guide and they know where they are going and they drop you off and pick you up at your hotel. Best way to see Rome if you have limited time. |

Muratella is not one of the metro stops, but rather one of the station in the Urban Trains system. You are quite outside the city, so I doubt the bus tours the other people were talking about will stop by your hotel. However, verify with the hotel: They might have a shuttle service that takes you into town. That would be a very safe way to get into the city, while I would avoid taking the train at night (most trains do not run after 11 pm anyway). You could also ask your Italian colleagues, if your relationship with them is friendly enough, to take you to see the city. I'm sure many of them will be happy to do it. |

I went to Rome with some friends 2 years ago and we jumped on a sightseeing bus at Termini station. Definitely worth doing if you ask me. Just don't do what we did and fall asleep part of the way round!
I don't think Rome is especially dangerous, us 3 girlies were not hassled in any way. Have a great time even though it's a business trip, Rome is a fantastic city!
The other thing I definitely recommend is asking the staff at your hotel for any advice for things to do or not do, the staff at our hotel were fantastic! |

I live in Rome, but I never heard of the "Muratella" metro stop. Are you sure that's what it's called? There are only 2 subways in Roma, the A and the B. The A subway will take you directly to the Spanish Steps, which are in heart of Rome and within walking distance of a lot of the most famous sights like Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Venezia, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. The B subway has a stop right in front of the Coliseum. As far out as you may be, neither subway trip to the center will take more than 20 mins so you should be able to get a lot of fast sight seeing in. And shopping. Consider that shops are usually open from 9 or 10 am till 1 pm, close for lunch and open again at 4 pm and close at 8 pm. If you check your metro stop again, maybe I can be of more help. Check out the map on this sight (the fat orange and blues lines are the metro lines) http://www.villadilivia.it/metropolitana_di_roma.htm and click on "mappa della metro". |
