Shipment to italy, printed address was incorrect. how does the italian postal office handle that?

for instance. someone gave me an incorrect address, Massa Via delle Pinete, 384 54037 - Marina Di Massa (MS), but the actually address is: Massa Via delle Pinete, 384 54100 - Marina Di Massa (MS). Where the 54100 is correct? I shipped out using 54037..... It was shipped from united states. Its been 30 days, no sign. whats does the italian postal service do?

The ZIP # 54037 is the old code # of Marina di Massa.
Effective Sept.20 2006 it has been modified into # 54100.
However I guess this will not cause troubles with the postal office since they must be aware of this pretty recent change.
Most likely the delay is just due to our notorius slow postal system and not to the wrong ZIP code and I'm sure you'll get yr shipment delivered in the next few days.

give the recipient all the information and ask him to make an inquiry to post office.

it takes time to get through customs, I for one some shipments from USA to Canada take one month on average.

You wrote the correct city and province, so that may just cause a delay.
What happens and how much time a shipment takes also depends on what kind of shipment you choose: it's registered, it's economic (so, slower)? There are many options, so it depends. But unless you used a very fast shipment option, 30 days are not so much time, yet, even more considering the wrong ZIP.

martox45 has given the most complete and reassuring answer. I can tell you that it took a 5 pound box I sent from San Diego 3 months to arrive to an address next to Padua last year.

It may still get there but it could take some time a few months. Depending on what it is though someone may have stolen it. They just caught a ring of people at the Rome airport that was stealing packages as they came into the country from the states. If you dont here something in a few weeks I would go to the post office and claim it. If you took insurance out on it.
