Should I pay a bus fine in Italy?

I recently got a bus fine in Bologna and was wondering if i can get away without paying. here are the details of the situation:

I'm an american who lives in italy (though i've outstayed my 3 months). i got the fine and i gave them a fake address (an apartment a few doors down from my old one). and the took my CT driver's license and wrote my driver's licesnse number on it. keep in mind that my passport nor my american address are written on the ticket. only my name, DOB, and state are the only actually true information. although i plan i staying possibly permanently, is this something that they can trace me on?

Did you deserve the fine? If so you may want to consider paying. It makes Americans look like ***** when you ride the bus without paying. Plus if you're planning on staying in the country indefinitely, especially as a guest overstaying your official welcome, it might be worth the cost just to set your mind at ease.

if they have your liscense they can most likley track you i suggest just paying

Certainly they can track you down. If they have your US driver's license number, they can easily find your US address and passport number. Whether they will or not is another matter, but that's beside the point - do the right thing. You took a risk when you got on the bus without a ticket and then got caught. Pay the fine. You're here illegally, do you really want to give people a reason to come looking for you?
