Milan does have some interesting things to see - the Duomo is nice. If you go, make sure you go up on the roof. La Scala has a small interesting museum. Of course there's the Cenacolo (Last Supper) - you'll need a reservation to get in. The shopping is great, but there's good shopping in Rome too.
If this is a one time trip with a choice between Milan and someplace like Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre, ... or even staying in Rome and taking day trips to Tivoli, Capri, Pompeii, or Orvietto, then I'd recommend skipping Milan. If you've already been to the other places, then Milan is worth a visit. There are some good day trips from Milan too (Lago Como, Bergamo, Pavia, Verona, or a lot of people take the train to Venice for the day).

There's nothing to do in Milan but business and shopping. There are a lot fo beautiful cities in Italy where you can spend a better time for a visit (Florence, Siena, Venice, etc.)

milan is the queen of shopping cities.. but it's much better to visit rome! there are lots of designer cloths there.. (well... more in milan.. ) but there are more things to visit.. if you want to visit other italian cities you should go to Florence! it's wonderful! and, why not, also Pise!

(i'm italian..from pisa, but i study in rome ;) )

The shops and out door markets will keep you quite busy in Rome.... Do Milan only if you have to.
