So I get a work visa or wing it in italy?

So I have decided to just apply for my dual citizenship in Italy instead of Canada because here we require WAY too much paperwork and documents that I will never have.

Soooo, when I return to florence this april I have two options

a) babysit like I did last time making 10 euro an hour (and have plenty of money saved up with me) but having babysitting be my only option as it doesn't require papers (legally yes but parents never ask for them)

b) spend 300$ to fly to the consulate (or take a 10 hr bus ride) where I have to apply for a work visa in person. This means I will also have to take the time off work and spend the nite in a hotel plus pay the 120$ for the visa itself. that's about 500$.

I am Canadian and can legally spend 3 months in Italy without a visa but can easily get my permesso di soggiorno to stay past the 3 months cos my folks are Italian but that doesn't allow me to work anyway ; which is fine if I'm only babysitting but if I want to work in an american pub for instance, I will need papers which like I've said will cost lost of money and I am trying to save every penny I have for my trip.

the visa is more of a "just in case" type thing, if babysitting doesn't work out and in most cases I would just do it but it's 500$ on a safety net when I'm already trying to pay off a 3000$ credit card and save for my trip in just 3 months.

what would you do if you were me?
Additional Details
hi,

I don't know if you mean applying from italy for my dual citizenship will take longer or applying for my visa will take longer cos applying for my visa from italy isn't even possible and applying for my DC from italy IS the better (and as I see it the only) option cos in canada they need 10 documents in italy they need 6. the only reason I didn't do it last time in italy was because I had to wait for my mom to order and mail it to me and by that time I was back in canada. anyway i think i'll take the 10 hr busride to vancouver, go the consulate and then bus back that same day. super sucky but I save hotel fare.

If I were you in today's economy, I would pay off the credit card debt and build up a nest egg before traveling to Italy. The job market here right now is pretty tight. I would also prefer to have the work visa and have more options than working illegally off the books. You will have to get a codice fiscale here too if you want to work legally and have a bank account. As a Canadian, you could consider a working holiday visa.

If it was me, I would apply from here. Since you seem to be going back and forth on a regular basis, it would be worthwhile. If you apply over there you will need the same paperwork, and it will probably take just as long (or longer considering Italian bureaucracy), you might not get your permission to work until you are ready to come back. The cost will be the same regardless.

It is simply not possible that for your citizenship you need only 6 documents while in Italy and 10 if in Canada. The law is always the Italian one, and rules and papers needed are the same. If you were told that documents are not the same, you probably received a wrong information. Moreover, while in Italy you will have to get some documents legalized by the Italian consulate in Canada, which will oblige you to send back and forth the papers.
If I were you, I would apply for the Italian citizenship through the Italian consulate of your place of residence in Canada.
