I LIVE IN THE SOUTH OF ITALY . the people of the northern italy consider us inferior than themself because they are more industrilisation but it isnt true!!
we have beautiful places to see and to relax, special on summer!!
come in puglia and you will have great time!!

There is not that much to add to what Prettyinpink already said. I'm Italian and live in Pisa, Tuscany. Like she said, the north is more industrialized, perople are colder and keep to themselves, while southerns are usually warmer and friendly and willing to help. Someone in Italy may think that in the north people work harder whereas in the south people are lazy and don't feel like working. The whole Italy is full of historic sites coming from different ages. As for landscapes, in the south the water is wonderful and the ones who enjoys the beaches and the sun often go there on vacation. But the innerland is more .. what can I say.. plane... while the centre and the north of the country offer a big variaty of scenaries: beautiful hills in Tuscany or mountains in the north such as Dolomiti. Clean water along the coast of Liguria, amazing lakes like Como or Garda. People from the south may be darker then us, with big dark eyes. They take life easy and always try to enjoy their free time, have fun etc.. I had a boyfriend in Sicily and when I visited him I was always struck by it. It is as if they put more value in small things of life, I can explain it only in this way :) People in the north tend to live according to the rules of society more than the southerns. For example, while riding you have to wear an helmet in Italy, by law. Well, not everyone In the south does it and police is more "comprehensive" there . Last thing, not only in the south people are considered warm. Also the ones living in Tuscany but mainly the ones from Emiia Romagna ( bordering Tuscany ) are very nice, probably the most polite and friendly persons of the whole country. I've always adored them :)
Bye bye

southern italians are more agricultural and the people are warm, lovely, affectionate, humble and full of life and joy. The north is very industrialized and the people r very busy with life, so everything is very individualistic...there r a lot of factories in the north so like i said it is industrialized, people are still somewhat friendly, but i personally prefer the south because of the environment and the kind of people i meet there. Most people from the south have dark hair and dark eyes, that is what they say...but in both the south and north u will meet all types of italians, blonde hair and black hair...they r everywhere.but the stereotype is that the blonde haired ones r in the north. if u go to sicily u will meet very light and dark people, its a very interesting contrast..both the north and the south are very rich in culture. it depends on where u r going...florence is rich in renaissance, rome is rich in ancient roman ruins and beautiful fountains, naplesis rich with the sea and their pizza and capri is sooo beautiful, venice is famous for its gondolas and san marco's...when u see it u will fall in love with the country..the atmosphere is very romantic.

pretty in pink has said it a whole lot better than what I can...but heres my take on it...
The North of Italy has more of an ancient celtic component while the south has more of a Greek one.
The cooking styles differ from both regions as well...again due to the cultureal differences from the past.
My anscestory is Sicilian...I am proud to tell people this because I like to live in the fantasy of having some Mafia blood in me! LOL!!!

i live n italy but 4 some strange reason, i find the southern italy safer
