Study Abroad in Italy?

I am considering Italy as the country I am going to study abroad in but I have a few choices as far as what city.
Rome, Siena, Florence, and Milan.
What is the best place for an American who may be trying to meet some local students, cute Italian university students perhaps?

Also, safest of the cities, though thats not too much of a concern?

Most business oriented city?

I also studied in Florence last semester. The city is amazing and gorgeous and im actually going back next summer to live after i graduate college. it is true that there are a lot of americans there, but if you want to meet the locals it is very easy to and they are very friendly. i became really good friends with a lot of them and actually am going to live with one of them when i go back to italy for a while.

the city itself was very safe, i was never pickpocketed at all... just dont be stupid and leave your bag wide open!

florence is a really nice place to live for a student because you can walk across the whole city in nearly 30 minutes... never have to take a bus... unless you are going outside of the center.

i had some friends who studied in rome and they seemed to like it too.. but when i visited rome, i was a little disappointed because of riding the metro... and wasnt as safe. one of my friends got her wallet stolen on it.

anyways, good luck choosing a place! you will have an amazing time.

Hi,

I know of people that have done their studies in Perugia (in Umbria) - they told me there was a great place to study.
And a bit cheaper to live than the other cities.

Check it out!

Have some other Italian tips here:

Ciao!

The most business oriented city is MIlan, but it is also a very large and dispersive city.
Siena is very small, and you could get bored soon.
Rome is amazing but, once again, very big and dispersive. I love living there, but I don't really know how hard it would be for an international student.
Florence is probably the best option, but chances are you'll be hanging around mostly with foreign students rather than locals. If that's OK for you, I'd definitely reccomend Florence.

They are all equally safe, except for the small crime that, unfortunately, is everywhere.

I'm studying in Siena, but I am Italian.
Siena it's a wonderful town (not so big like Florence, Rome or Milan) and many students from every part of the world (also from Italy) choose this town for its study.
I have write 2 links of the University, I hope it will be usefully for your decision

I just studied in Florence this summer, so maybe I'm a little bit biased, but it was a great city to study in. I was in Rome and Siena, but I didn't study there so I don't really know much about them. I do know that Florence has a huge student population if that's important to you. There's a lot of universities, both Italian and American. It's also pretty safe - as long as you're careful about locking your doors, not letting random people in your apartment, etc., which is true for any city.
It's also one of the most beautiful places I've ever been - I loved it and only wish I could go back right now! Have a wonderful time :)
