Study in Rome or Florence?

Hello! I am trying to decide whether I should study abroad 1 spring semester in Rome or Florence.
I am a Mass Communications major. I like to stay busy but I must be able to appreciate my surroundings.I am looking to immerse myself into a city that is full of music, culture, good cuisine, and night life!

school is important too but i really just want to see the best of italy!

I appreciate all the advice I can get! Thanks :)

I would prefer Florence and do Rome in the weekends. Rome is too busy. In Florence yo ueill definetly have your time to dive into the the italian culture and check on tuscany. despite florence being smaller, it is full of history and culture.

I went to italy for a Month to study italian, I stayed in Florence but traveled to other cities. Florence is good if you dont speak alot of italian because there are alot of english speaking italians with less tourists than rome. Public transportation is awesome in italy, unless they strike but you can take a 3 hour train for i think like 28 euro which is like 35 bucks or so. always take a regional train, they go slower but they are alot cheaper. Florence is has the most pop culture compared to Rome, got to both places when you get there. florence has a lot of younger italians and the night life is really fun, just hit up a discoteca or a local bar for some drinks! the further you get from tourist spots the better and more authentic the food is!

for mass communication Rome definately...

rome is a very enjoyable city, you can visit florence in the weekend it's close...

check out cinecitta' Rome for your studies.

Rome is the capital it's beautiful plenty to do and livelier than florence

rome for sure. this city has EVERYTHING. you can get lost in the little streets, dance like there's no tomorrow, and get the food, culture, and cuisine of italy. i should know because i'm studying communications here now. :)

Personally, I prefer Firenza. There was a time when I seriously considered buying a flat overlooking the Arno River as a place to retire to... I think Florence is the most intellectual city in Italy and the University is one of the oldest in the world

I would NEVER move to Rome because it's too BIG... too DIRTY... everyone goes too FAST and there is too much CRIME. I have NEVER liked Rome since the first visit when I did all the usual tourist stuff... once I had a chance to go back AS AN ADULT and really look at Rome subjectively... I realized that city was not for me.

My absolute favorite city in Italy is VENICE. though... I fell in love with that town nearly 50 years ago and still go back there when I have the chance.

I live in Rome and I have many friends who live in in Florence...
Rome is surely bigger..the center of the city is awesome, full of monuments, shops, pubs. But it's also very expensive, crowded and sometimes dirty.
Florence is smaller, cleaner, even more expensive (in Rome you can find some cheaper places even if the rents are unacceptable)
Maybe Florence is better for you: it is more student focused, everything is slower and there is less crime.
If you need some specific advice just write to me, I'd be glad to help!

If the night life is important to you, then Rome is the place to be. Both places have plenty to see and do and good culture, but Rome is a bigger city. Either one is a good base for exploring Italy using the trains.
