Usually there is a bank in most major cities that will exchange American dollars for Euros. Check with your bank and they should be able to tell you who will. In addition, most major airports have exchange booths as well. I hope one of these work for you.

Btw...I went to Venice! You will have an amazing experience. Be sure to see the glass makers. Fascinating!!! ENJOY!!

most places take credit cards, to exchange cash make sure to bring US dollars with you because thee are lots of places to exchange money outside the airports and train stations. If you go to a place on the street some where you will get a better deal. Just make sure you know the exchange rate before you go, most of the places have a sign outside that will tell you what the exchange rate they are giving

California Bear
In order to get the most advantageous exchange rate, use an ATM machine. There will be a bank fee but it will still be cheaper than the exchange rate fees and you will get and up-to-date exchange rate.

Just make sure that you get a PIN for your credit card before leaving and let your bank know you will be using the card in Europe so they don't shut down your account thinking someone has hijacked it to Europe.

You can either change some money at your bank for travelers checks or you can go to a bank when you get to Venice and exchange American money directly for Euros.

in every bank

Most Kiosks or bank atm-type machines in europe will tell you the current exchange rate. DO NOT go to a US bank. You will get the worst possible exchange rate.
You could check out Clarkhoward.com He has advice on this.

Your US ATM card should work in most European machines. I've traveled all over the world and never arrived with the foreign currency in my possession. I've always been able to get cash at the foreign airport ATMs.

Most of the networks you're probably familiar with are everywhere (Cirrus, Plus, Visa, etc.). I've heard you'll need a six digit PIN. Best to call your bank before leaving to make sure ATMs are available overseas.

Any exchange office or bank ! Don't do it on street!
