It's more expensive than it was a couple of years ago, but train travel is generally a pretty easy way to get around here. You can use the website that Zafir gave you to check schedules and prices. What she didn't tell you is that you have various options to trade off travel time and convenience against cost. There is an early train from Cesena to Rome with a change in Rimini - the base fare is 39.50 euro in 2nd class. However, you can buy this as separate tickets Cesena to Rimini and Rimini to Rome and take advantage of the special promotional fares on the fast train if you book in advance (15, 30, or 60% savings): http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=227f805cc9740210VgnVCM1000003f16f90aRCRD

Similarly, these promotional fares are available for the options going through Bologna or Ancona using the fast trains.

You could also take a regional train to Bologna for 5.80 euro and then catch the intercity train to Rome at 9:08 am. The base fare for this is 40.80 euro, but you can buy a ticket at the Amica fare on the intercity train if you get the ticket at least a day in advance and pay 31.40 euro for the trip.

Bus lines aren't always an option for long distance travel here. The trains are for the longer trips and the buses generally fill in from train stations to other towns where the trains don't go.

I traveled from Milan to the Lakes to Turin to Venice to Florence and on to Rome. I had no probems with the train system. Don't take a bus, take the train and be sure to purchase a first class ticket. You can go for instance from Milan to Florence and I think it was 60 E at the time. The trains are clean and well run and I had no problem what-so-ever.

A 2nd class ticket from Cesena to Rome will cost around 60euros, and the trip takes about 4 1/2 hours with a change of train at Bologna.

Check out http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html to get an idea of prices and the timetable.

Anywhere from 40-60 euro! Depending on what train you wanna take and the time of day you wanna go.

I went from Rome to Florence to Venice all by train and it was aggravating. The delays and the strikes made it very hard to get around and make good time.
