Transportation question - Venice, Italy ??? |
I am travelling to Venice later this week for a long weekend. I have been investigating how to get from the airport to the hotel. A big confusion has arisen.
Am I completely wrong here? The standard waterbus Vaporetto appears to be the cheapest way to go and also the fastest. Hotel is by the Vallaresso stop. It appears to be 5 Euro and 30 minutes.
The more expensive option is the Alilaguna which costs 10 Euros but seems to be a 1 hour 15 minute trip.
Advice or clarification appreciated. |

Whether you fly into Marco Polo airport or Treviso, when you get off the plane you will need to to take the ATVO bus to Piazalle Roma. You can buy a ticket in the airport from the booth situated by the exit doors (Treviso) and if you ask for 'andata e returno' they will give you a return ticket which you can use on the way back. The Piazalle Roma is the last place in Venice where you can travel by road so you will get off the bus there and then catch your vaporetto to the Vallaresso stop. The vaporetto is very simple and straight forward. You can purchase tickets either from one of the booths situated in various place or you can pay for your ticket when you get onto the water bus. Each stop has a big route map so that you can see where that particular vaopretto goes to and also alot ot the conductors speak English.
The trip that you make to get to your hotel, you obviously will have to make to return to the airport. Don't worry about the bus times as the tend to coincide with the arrival and departure of flights. You will get a timetable given to you when you buy your tickets anyway.
Don't worry and have a good trip. I've got to wait until November until I go to Venice again.

I agree with the water bus if you're traveling on the cheap. They are well marked and depart from easily found piers frequently. I forget the price, but it could not have been much because I would not have forgotten it had it been pricey.
The water taxis are more expensive, but if you double up with other passengers, the shared price can be brought down. They can get you there faster than the buses and you can have them pick you up on demand and drop you off anywhere on the canals. That might save you trekking long distances to and from your hotel lugging your luggage behind you. |

Just take the waterbus. It has regular stops, almost like an underground train or bus system in some cities (like NYC). They are so easy to use, and you get a cool view of the grande canale, etc, anyway. Venice is awesome. |
