Traveling to Italy?

I would like to Travel to Italy sometime in 2008. What would be the best time to go to experience great weather, and not many tourists?

Depends what you count as great weather!! Avoid Rome near Easter - unless you want to do the full Catholic experience - it will always be busy, but is extremely busy then. May, June, Sept or Oct will be great for weather and not as crowded as Easter. July and August are way too hot and too busy. Venice is delightful out of season, but not great weather - I've been twice in January and had good weather - even eating outside - but you could end up with rain and floods. Whatever you do - do not venture near Venice in July/Aug - crowded like hell and smelly! Every where gets busy in July and August - and too hot so avoid. Lakes are glorious in April/May. Milan and Turin will do most times as cities - but will be cold in winter. Florence will always be busy, but, again, May, Sept or Oct should be okay. Hire a car and drive around - late Spring or Autumn again are recommended. Don't go to Italy for beaches - the locals prefer the managed beach - carefully lined up sunloungers, at a price, rather than the free enjoyment of sand and sea. Do go for great cities, ancient sites, fabulous art and churches, great shopping and stupendous food. Go wth a little bit of Italian and they will love you. Above all - GO!!!!!!!

Definitely May or late September October. Australians do not need to chase the sun like the English etc do so it is best to go after they have all finished sunning themselves. From about the 23rd of September the prices tend to drop, the pools in hamlets and villas are mostly still open and the colours will be starting to change.

May, September and October. The summer is the worst time. It's hot and very crowded. It really depends where you go how crowded it gets. We were there in September and the weather was beautiful, many tourists in Rome. But not horrible. Have fun it's a great country.)

Late April or late October, nice weather, moderate no of tourists, but if you go to Roma, Florence, Milano, Venice, and Piza you'll always find these cities crowdy but worthy every dime, enjoy la dolce vita:)
