Traveling to Italy in May. What should I be sure to drink?

I'm traveling all over Italy in May. I want to make sure I try all the best local brews and wines. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! Thanks

You should add to your wine list the "Picolit", one of the best wines in the world, produced in a small area of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Shouldn't miss it if you have the chance.
Unfortunately it's very rare and expensive. But it's worthwhile.

I would go for wines since Italy is known for them. For instance, Ireland is best known for their brews. If you like something dry, go for the reds. Ciati. But if you like something sweet, a bit on the fruity side, go for the whites.

I recommend you try Brunello de Montalcino. This is a very fine red wine produced in vinyards around a small town in South Tuscany. Brunello is produced exclusively from special sangiovese grapes which are unique to this area. The wine is typically aged for at least 4 years before being sold, generally for 2 or more years in oak casks and the remainder in the bottle. Brunellos can be aged for very many more years and will only improve. The wine is rich, full bodied and smooth as silk.

All Chianti are great...and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Then if you want an expensive wine: Barolo. It is just the best.

Also San Giovese can make it for you.....

Don't worry....all the wine in Italy is just great!!!

Well, Italy is famous for it's wine. You must know that every Italian region and city has it's own wines. If I were you, I'd ask the waiter in the restaurant or bar you are going to, to give you some local wines. They can advise you on which wines are better for the food you are eating. Look for the word "doc" written on the labels...it means that they are the originals and not cheap imitations. I live in Italy.

Hello! I'm from tuscany, I'm agree for the Brunello di Montalcino, it's fantastic.
But I think thant you try SOAVE (white wine) you find it near Venezia, Verona
"Recioto della Valpolicella", or Recioto for short, is created in the Venitian region of Italy. Originally there was only one legal region, or DOC, for the Valpolicella name. These wines are made with the Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. Two sub-groups emerged, though - recioto, which is a sweet dessert wine, and amarone, which is a dry red wine with great body.
They are my favorites!

Where are you going? I love wine from Sicily especially the Nero d'avola. Great red wine - give it a try if you like red.For an apperativo which is a before dinner drink then have a proseco if you like sparkling whites.

Try a Bellini. Its made from peach juice and prosecco (sparkling wine). It is a traditional Venetian cocktail...delicious!!!

Ask for the cocktail MILANO-TORINO ( is red campari with red martini ) or SBAGLIATO ( red camparai, red martini, sparkling white wine ) or NEGROSKY ( red campari, red martini, white vodka ) or NEGRONI ( red campari, red martini, dry gin ).
