If you don't have problems to move by train I could suggest you to reach Como and its lake (even if for what I know Como hasn't got much to see). An interesting city is for sure Bergamo with its old historic city called Bergamo Alta because stand on the top of an hill. Verona is a little bit far of 2hrs. I think but is a really nice city with a beautiful things to see even just wlaking around. Pavia as well is near Milan and apart of the city in itself is well known for its "Certosa" an old interesting and visited cathedral. Parma as well is a nice place to visit and easy to reach standing on the railway to Bologna, well-linked to Milan. Sorry if I won't give you more information but putting those names of cities (I wrote that in Italian) you'll have the chance to have a look on the net and putting as well the word "APT" (promotional tourism agencies) you could easily find sites in english too.

Have a nice stay.

Venis, Genoa, and the Princepality of Monaco are all within a couple of hours of Milan by train. Also Lake Como in Switzerland if you want to see the Alps... a very Scenic train ride. The trains go pretty near to right down town in all these citys.

Venice is far from Milan, i suggest to stay in Bergamo (Alta) that is a beautiful city or in Como, that have a nice lake.. Monza is a little city but is very nice..
Turin is also good, but a little bit far

I live in Milan, and if you don't want to spend so much in these days I suggest you these cities

Have fun! ;-)

Ciao!!!
