Trip to Verona, Italy?

I was hoping in June I would take a trip to Verona, Italy. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on if this is a good time to go, and where I could find the cheapest good place to book my tickets and hotel and all. If anyone could give me information about their experience in Italy, that would be helpful too.

June is a great time to be here. Although it can sometimes be hot even then, the weather is usually pretty nice. I've lived about an hour south of Verona for the past 9 years. There are a lot of good hotel booking sites which are more or less equivalent. The one I use is Venere.com - it's been reliable for me. I usually only stay in Verona if I have an early flight or am at an event at the Arena that will run too late to catch the last train home. There are a couple of places I usually stay - both are fairly close to the Porta Nuova train station. Hotel prices vary a lot depending on the season and what's going on in the city. The Novo Hotel Rossi is one of the cheaper places and is okay. You can walk into the old town, but it's about 20 minutes. If inexpensive is your highest priority - this might be a reasonable choice.

The Hotel Verona is just outside the old city - about a block and a half from Piazza Bra in the old town where the Arena is. This place has wireless internet connection and a very good breakfast. The hotel is very convenient for sightseeing and for access to the train station if you want to go to Venice or elsewhere in Italy.

For airline tickets, it depends on where you're coming from. A couple of good sites for finding budget flights include: http://www.whichbudget.com/en/ and http://www.skyscanner.net/, especially if you're starting in Europe. You can also try http://farechase.yahoo.com/.

One of the strangest regattas is in Venice in June - the San Pellegrino Cooking Cup. The boats all have celebrity chefs and there's a cooking competition as well as the boat race. The San Virgilius Festival in Trento is also worth going to see.

The Humidity can be very high during June, otherwise it is a great time to visit. Winter is over, the temperatures are moderate, and most of the vegetation is in bloom.

Greece is a country of beauty and friendly people who will go out of their way to help you. I didn't have one bad experience in Greece.

Italy is a country of good food, splendid architecture, and some of the worst treatment of tourist I have encountered. I travel the world, and have been to most Euro countries. Italy treats the tourist the worst.

Everyone in Italy that you contact will try to over charge you. For example: The restaurant menu says 15 Euros per meal including taxes. Order 3 meals @ 45 Euro, and when I went to pay, the employee behind the register demanded 51 Euros. When I objected, he dropped the demand to 50 Euro.

Even the attendant at the train station will try to over charge you with the train tickets prices posted on the window in front of him. He said the extra Euro was for him for helping us.

The list goes on and on. So expect to have the Italian people try to overcharge and cheat you when you purchase things.

In Italy there are signs posted everywhere to beware of pick pockets and watch your cameras and other possessions. They are for real, believe them. Even the Italian tour guide stole a woman's purse.

June is a very good time to go. You could try this site http://www.venice-italy-veneto.com/verona-italy.html for some insider information on the city and where to stay.
