Note that there is one youth hostel in Venice and it's on the Giudecca. The only draw back to staying there is that it costs 6 euro one way to leave the island where it's housed. Six Euro back means 12 euro just for basic transportation.

I used a website called hostelbookers.com and there is tons of hostels, cheap hotels and B &B's to choose from. There is also ratings and reviews on all of them, along with prices, so you can get a good idea about the place. We stayed at a beautiful B & B called the four seasons, and the lady there was so nice, we had so much luggage that she let us stay in the hotel they own too, and we had views of the grand canal (for the same price as the B &B) so I would definitly recommend that place. Have a wonderful trip!

I agree, try some B&B or a 1 star Hotel. The price would maybe rise up to €60 per night (for a double) but it's much better than staying at Giudecca (the boat will cost you lots, as someone said already).
We even do have some rooms (one close to my place is "Alloggi Barbaria") and, again just round the corner to my place, another sort of youth hostel - I think it's called 'Salesiani'.
Look up for 'Casa Verardo', is a nice B&B even if I don't know the price.

If you let us know you max budget we could better help you.

Hope this helps!
