Venice or Naples? Which one to visit? |
Going to Italy for 10 Days. Starting in Rome, going to Florence and either Naples or Venice. Rome for 4 days, Florence for 3 days and other city for day trip or 2 days. Confused. Mom and daughter vacation, creating lifetime of memories, what the most from visit. |

With only 10 days, and Rome and Florence already planned, it would make more sense to stay in the north of Italy to keep travel times to a minimum. So, Venice would be the best city to see. It's also totally different to any other city and it would be a shame not to spend a couple of days there. |

smiley people and nice weather on venice?!? It isn't true... Naples is one of the most beautiful city in the world..!!! Venice is nice but Naples is much better... wonderful places to visit, a marvellous sea, very tasty food ( have you ever eaten an authentic neapolitan pizza?) nicer and more sociable people, in the south of italy everybody is funnier and more friendly..!!! please choose NAPOLI!!! you will have fun, trust me!!
I'm sorry if I made some mistakes... but I'm Italian
Greetings from Italy |

naples isn,t all that great but the nearby Amalfi coastline is really lovely,
but as your going why not go to Venice and Naples, Florence isn,t that big and could be done in a day,so use the extra time to see both. also the train system is cheap and efficient . rome will probably take 4 days |

If you are going in the height of summer beware that Venice has very high levels of humidity. We were there at the beginning of July last year and were wilting! Spent most of our time in air-conditioned bars and cafes to escape the heat - it is a "must see" place but next time we'll opt for an Autumn visit.
Have you thought of adding Verona to your list? A night at the opera in the Roman amphitheatre there is memory to treasure. Since it was so hot, the cheap seats around the rim were better than the expensive ones down in the pit and the Midnight breeze was wonderful! |

This really depends on your interests; either way, you'll have a great time. If you go to Naples, you could spend the two days seeing Pompeii/Erculano and Capri, for instance. If you go to Venice, you can cover the city pretty well in two days. The Biennale will be running through the summer in Venice; I usually go to Venice four or five times during the summer just to see the exhibitions in the years when it's running. If you'll be here on the 18th of July, Venice will be celebrating Il Redentore with great fireworks over the lagoon. The city will be packed with people though. Both places are worth seeing.
Someone suggested going to Venice based on travel times. There really isn't a big difference between the two. Florence to Venice is 2 hr 40 minutes on the faster trains; Naples is 3 hr 16 minutes from Florence. However, if you're flying in and out of Rome, then getting back to Rome is much quicker from Naples (it's about 3 hours closer by train). If you go to Venice, consider flying into Rome and out of Venice to save travel time. |

I don't think the city of Naples itself is all that great a place to visit. However, the very dramatic coastline & Capri and Pompeii & Mount Vesuvias are close to Naples.
Venice is a very interesting place, and two days is a good amount of time for a casual visit.
So it depends on what you want to see. |
