We are honeymooning in the Bardolino, Italy area in September. What is a must see?

Lake Garda is beautiful, but I don´t know a lot about the surrounding area. Should we take a tour?

There are several interesting towns on the lake - Malcesine on the north end and Sirmione on the penninsula at the south end of the lake both have castles; Sirmione has some interesting Roman ruins. Other than the lake itself, Verona is close. The old town is scenic and there are frequent events like the classic car rally last Saturday. Venice, Padova, Mantova, and Trento are all easy day trips via train from Verona. Firenze (Florence) is about three hours from Verona by train and would also be a good choice for a day trip depending on how long you'll be in Bardolino.

I have never been to italy and know nothing about it, but, I would hire a car, tours are boring prepacked products.
