We plan to go sailing around Italy next year. Has anybody sailed the east coast of Italy? Any tips or advice?

It is a marvellous experience!! You are lucky, here in Italy we have the most amazing coast in the whole world! only an advice: bring with you a coat! It is a little windy in this season!

No, i preferr to sail croatia's coast in Adriatic. Anyway most of the coast is made by sand, so be careful for depth of water, channels, lights. Most of the sailing clubs let you stop for free for one night in theyr harbour. Lega Navale is a nation-wide sailing club with piers in a lot of ports, you can have a list of cities and phone/fax numbers here http://www.leganavale.it/portale/docs/elenco_basi_nautiche.pdf ,sorry it's in italian.

No, it's very dangerous.
There are ancient monsters like Scilla and Cariddi monsters or big sharks from hell in that sea.
Also sirens but they aren't sirens... but drag queens.
Be careful
