I guess they were kidding. Can't see it any other way. Consider you wil need four to five days for Venice only. Visit the main attractions and just loose yourself among the people and campi of Venice. Don't forget to use the waterbus system.

Plan at least five days in Florence. You will be able to visit Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, its Duomo (cathedral), the Baptistry (its exterior made of green and white marble are really famous) and the Ponte Vecchio (old bridge). Florence isn't a huge city, you're gonna a great time and a good idea of how the city really is. You won't be able to have a full visit of Uffizi in Florence but you can choose certain rooms: e.g. Leonardo or Michelangelo. Keep in mind Uffizi timetable Tuesday-Sunday, 8:15 am - 6:50 pm. If you're looking for a good hotel in Florence you can go to Scoobit.com, the hotel search engine at http://www.scoobit.com Fill the form with city name (Florence) I went to the third hotel on the left: nice and clean place.

For Rome you're gonna need another good week. I can suggest this website http://www.scoobit.com and this page dedicated to Rome hotels in particular http://www.scoobit.com/accommodations-rome-hotels.php I stayed at the third hotel on the left. It was a clean, well located and nicely staffed hotel. Not over-priced.

1 week is not enough..If you can manage 2 weeks, that would be better...I lived there for about 3 years and even that wasn't enough time!

I personally like Southern Italy as I didn't get to visit Northern Italy. If you want to relax, go to Sicily, hang out at the beach, go to the disco's..

And you can even see the sights, as everything is relatively close. There are lots to see: Ancient ruins, Mt.Etna, etc..

Be sure to visit a winery or eat lunch at an agriturismo.

There is so much to see just in Sicily. You could go from one side of the island to the other and back, for a day trip. And a week or two would be fine.

Geez... who told you that. i lived there three years and didnt see it all... It depends where you are and what you are into seeing. There are so many things to see and do that it depends what you are into. My favorites are... Rome... two days Unless your Catholic and need to spend a day with the Vatican... I like the Roman Ruiins there myself. I would not do the Vatican Museum unless you are into Religous Art as that is all they have in it. Pisa is a very pretty little town in western part and that is the leaning tower... that would be a days drive out there. The art in Florence is a day or two... but if you are not an art freak, one day there. Venice is a day or two to linger and relax... it is soooo beautiful. but that is me. shop, eat, drink... I lived in Naples... that is south of Rome... it has Pompeii and Vesuvii good day trip, Capri Island and great shopping in the city.... and the Amafi Coast with Sorrento etc. We have not even covered going south down to the real roman ruins and the island of Sicily. Live Volcano... cool!!! I am gonna say a fast Week... or a fun easy going Two Weeks.....

For a hard core museum go-er, a week isn't long enough even to see the city of Rome. Rome is one of the most jam-packed cities in terms of museums, and sights.

Almost every region in Italy is worth a visit, and many regions are worth at least a week.

Is not too long!!! There are so many cities to visit, so many different place, and a thousand of different things to do!!! You need minimum one month if you are really visiting.North and Central of Italy are the best!!!
