Average day temperatures are around 26 - 28°C (78 - 81°F) but often get hotter . Humidity is high making for sticky conditions, with high heat haze and high pollution making the throat and head a little unclear and uncomfortable. Winds come from the south and are also hot.
The spring can be crisp and clear but the temperatures are OK.
Autumn in September and the first two weeks of October are also fairly stable.
Avoid the winter which has heavy rainfall and flooding flooding often in November and December. January and February are the coldest months, with a temperatures close to freezing between 0°C (32°F) and 7°C (44°F).
So my recommendation is in either the spring or early autumn. Best to save money as well in those seasons on hotel offers - because it's not peak season , plus airfares are cheaper. Try these sites to help you :

I've lived about 2 hours from Venice for about 9 years and visit at least once a month. I like April - May and September - October for the combination of good weather and smaller crowds of people. However, it really depends on what you're looking for. I never miss Carnevale (Jan, Feb depending on when Easter is), or Il Redentore (great fireworks - July) and there are a lot of other interesting festivals & regattas throughout the year.
