The best and fastest way, excluding flying would be to take the train. If you are going during the "high season" you may wish to make researvations to secure seats on the train especially if you need to get to Venice to go to the airport. You can go on to the www.raileurope.com website to investigate fares and to book tickets. If you live in the United States you should book well in advance, before leaving for Europe. The tickets will be sent to you before you depart for Italy. You can get first or second class..getting second class would save you money. If you are going to Venice Santa Lucia station, you will still need transposrtation to Marco Polo airport from the train. We went by water taxi, but that is considerably more than taking a water bus (vaperetto). The vapeeretto will be much slower, so allow yourself extra time (I'd add an hour on to be safe) but you will save money. You may also want to investigate taking the train to the Venice mainland (Mestre) instead of Santa Lucia station and getting transportation from there to the airport
Another helpful website for train information is www.trenitalia.it
Enjoy your stay in Italy..it is a wonderful place! Ciao! |

Eurostar train from florence to Venice station |

Take the train! You can either go local - sorry in English I don't know the correct wording - or take the Eurostar. I would recommend the Eurostar. It is a little more expensive, but a lot quicker. Don't buy your tickets in the US. It is a lot cheaper to buy them at the termini. I mean A LOT! |

you can take a bus from Florence bus station to Venice train station, then get the airport bus...
you need to decide, cheap versus quick ... because the absolute quickest way is to fly from Florence to Venice, but that won't be the cheapest way...
The cheapest way would be to hitch-hike, but not very quick...
best compromise is either the train from Florence to Venice, then the airport bus, or by bus.
happy trails
