What's the nearest tourist attraction that's walking distance to the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps? |
Would love to explore some Rome attractions by walking around from my hotel near Piazza Indipendenza. |

Yes, walking Rome is the way to go.
The Trevi fountain and the Spanish steps areas are very central so most of Rome tourist attractions will be within reach.
Well, Trinita dei Monti, is right at the top of the Spanish Steps and from there you can get an excellent view of Rome (and your bearings too).
Just behind Trinita dei Monti is the Villa Borghese Gardens - definitely worthwhile for a break from the hectic pace of Rome.
You can see the twin churches in Piazza del Popolo. Via del Corso runs from Piazza del Popolo to Close to Piazza di Spagna. Via del Babbuino connects the Spanish steps with Piazza del Popolo.
The pantheon should also not be too much of a stretch, a really impressive building plus entrance is free.
But even the Colosseum and the Roman Forums should be manageable!
Enjoy it, you will love walking through Rome, there is literally something on every street corner.
When are you going? |

You can really walk most of Rome without if you want. I live in northern Italy and occassionally go to Rome as a day trip using the night train. I often just walk from Roma Termini past Santa Maria Maggiore and St Peter in Chains down to the Colosseum and spend the morning in the ancient Rome area. I usually make it a point to go by Santa Maria in Cosmedin to see the Mouth of Truth. Then walk from there past the Vittoriano & Trajan's Column to the Pantheon stopping at Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (one of my favorite churches in Rome) along the way. From there I usually go to Piazza Navona and on to Castel Sant'Angelo and St Peter's Square and then to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain before heading back to the station. Walking allows you to see a lot of interesting public art, fountains and architecture along the way.
If your hotel is near Trevi Fountain, then it's not a difficult walk to the Pantheon and Piazza Navonna or to the Spanish Steps or the Quirinale. You could also walk to Via Veneto and the Villa Borghese and see the park and museums there. There are some great views of St Peters.
If you're in Rome in December go to the Piazza del Popolo and see the 100 Presepi (nativity scenes).
Another good way to get around is the hop-on, hop-off bus which has several stops near the tourist attractions where you can get off and explore. |

Tourist Attraction? The whole city is a tourist attraction!!!!! LOL!!!
Rome is the most beautiful city to explore on foot - Each hotel has a courtesy map of Rome - grab one of those and start wandering - there is also a great underground train system to get you around the place when you get a bit tired!! I felt so safe - in fact I took my 72 year old mother on the train in Rome much to the horror of the tour guide!!!
I love it in Rome that you can walk around and see the most amazing things just about EVERYWHERE!! I loved the little drinking fountains all over the place.
The other thing is most people in Rome are helpful and kind - most speak English - if you throw in a bit of Italian!!! Have fun!!! |

You can easily walk to the Pantheon (600 meters west of the Trevi Fountain) and Piazza Navona (300 meters west of the Pantheon).
The Wedding Cake (Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II) is 700 meters south of Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum is 800 meters SE of the Wedding Cake with the Roman Forum along the way. |
