As people before me told you, sistine chapel is in rome, two metro stops from the center of the city: i think it is...ten minutes from via del corso and thirty from colosseum or campidoglio. There is always a LONG line to do...but the last sunday of every months tickets are free. Of course, the line of the last sunday is the longest in the month!
I'm sure what i told, just because i have been living for 16 years near vatican museum. I loved to see tourists in line! ;-P
please scuse me if i did some mistake...

it is in rome.. make sure if you go that your shoulders are covered and you have your shorts/skirt/dress down to your knees. they will not let u in. trust me i got kicked out..lol.. no cameras are "allowed" but those u can always hide to bring in. it is beautiful there. depending on the day, there can be a LONG wait.

don't know kiddo i flunked geography.

Actually, it is in Vatican City, which is an independent city-state immediately adjacent to Rome. About 2.5 hrs from Florence by a Rapido train.

The Sistine chapel is in the Vatican and the Vatican is basically in Rome, which is in the central part of Italy... Florence is like 2-3h from Rome and Venice, is waaaay up North.

Just a word of advice, if you're going to go to the Sistine chapel, check the schedules because its closed around 3 days a week, and dress appropriately (No sleeveless shirt, short skirts or shorts...) or they wont let you in :)

Hello,

The sistine chapel is in the museums of the vatican. The vatican is located on the northeastern side of Rome. It is actually a country in itself but there are no real borders or security checkpoints to get into it. If you are visiting the museums you will have to go thru a security checkpoint but you can easily walk into the Piazza St, Pietro without a problem. If you are interested in seeing the sistine chapel, it is open every day except Sunday along with the rest of the museum. The museum is opened on the last Sunday of the month and is free on this day but it is very crowded and not advisable to go.

As for distances from Venice, it is 4.5 hours by high speed train and from Florence it is 1.5 hours by train. It takes about half an hour to get from the main train station to the musuems of the vatican.

TIP: If you want to avoid extra long lines go at noon.

smilies1998
Its in Vaction City which is in the middle of Rome. Its about 4 hours from Venice if you drive fast like the Italian do, 2 hours from Florence if you also drive fast and its in Rome.
