What MUST I see in Rome?

I live in Rome. I will identify for you monuments and places by the Italian names.

Unmissable: Colosseo; Foro Romano; Campidoglio; Piazza Venezia; Piazza Navona; Pantheon; Fontana di Trevi; Piazza di Spagna; Piazza and Basilica di San Pietro; Musei Vaticani; Basilica di San Giovanni; via Giulia and Piazza Farnese; the Quirinale square (Palazzo del Quirinale is the Italian White House); Piazza del Popolo and Terrazza del Pincio; chiesa di Santa Maria del Popolo (Raphael was the architect)
Shopping at via Condotti (Prada, Valentino, Armani etc.)
Walk as much as you can. Most of the Roman monuments are located in the very center of the town.
Minding the pickpockets, use the subway (stops at Colosseo, Piazza di Spagna, San Pietro)and buses. Do not dare to drive a car in Rome unless you first write your will.
Close to Rome: the Castelgandolfo lake (20 miles south); the Bracciano lake (20 miles north). Pay a visit to Anguillara, Bracciano, Trevignano. If you are really careful and prudent (the Italian drivers are first of all Italians, than drivers) rent a car and drive around.

I think (central) Rome is so top to bottom drop dead gorgeous that having too much of an iternary spoils it. Just walking around the centre will throw up one stunning vista after another: some famous landmarks, some just random little squares you have never heard of. So I say just stroll around and don't rush lunch.

A lot of people did already a good job in listing attractions within Rome (especially centre).
I would just like to mention a few nearby small cities which are gorgeous and reachable:
On the sea-side, there is Anzio ( a nice port) and (a bit more in the land) Nettuno - a lovely medieval town.
On the "colli Romani", the hills around Rome, there is Marino, Frascati, Castel Gandolfo and - especially, my favourite - Nemi. Not only the view is great, as these cities lies on lakes (most of them), but the food is spectacular> You should try small "trattorie", which is the equivalent of Greek "Taberne". They are generally un-expensive un-pretentious places where to eat real local food, mostly home made.

Absolutely Galleria Borghese, San Paolo fuori le mura, Musei Vaticani, musei capitolini, Aventino(the wonderful view and sunset), palazzo Barberini, Trastevere, chisa di Gesu, Pantheon, Quirinale, San giovanni in laterano, Foro romano, Colosseum, Altare della patria(piazza Venezia)...

Vatican City and the Trevi Fountain are the best places to see. Also the Colosseum and the roman forum nearby.

Just walk and walk and walk some more and you will see everything and experience the city and all it's "must" sees because they are all around, through-out the city. There is nowhere to go in Rome that isn't a must see-they will pop out at you all around and you will meet many people. Walk from one end to the other and you won't miss anything-that is what I did.

all the lovely blokes but if you have to go site seeing don't miss the Romain stadium it is cool to get around go by car or coach.x

Campobasso.. You'll forget about Rome when u see this..Little slice of paradise...I'm moving there in the autumn with my hubby and five kids because it's just the most amazing place i've ever seen...

u should see the pizza tower, because it is one of the seven wonders in the world. You should also go to milano where shopping is the best thing to do.
