What are Rome and Milan like in January?

I have been to both during the summer but I have time to get away in January this year. I would like to take a friend of mine who has never been to Italy before and was wondering will she be missing out on anything or is it as terrific in the winter as it is in the summer

I was there in January and it was beautiful. 60 degrees during the day, high 40's at night. The lines were short, the Vatican leaves it's Christmas decorations up through the end of the month, and you never have to wait for a seat at the restaurants.

It was great! Bring lots of black clothes and a few scarves to fit in. Anytime you get chilly, order yourself a cappuccino to warm up.

It's not so cold. Milan can be foggy (and it is colder, but not terrible). Generally it doesn't rain too much in january.

I've lived in Rome for 5 years....

In January you need a sweater or jacket and at night and the early morning it is cold - right around the freezing point. You'll see frost on the grass and ice on the windshields in the morning when you leave the house. But it rarely ever snows in Rome, and when it does its a few flakes for a few minutes then it goes away.

Milan is even colder and you can get snow.

Rome and Milan are beautiful in every moment!!!

Rome is good in all season!
Milan is colder in winter...I dont suggest to visit in January...better in Spring or Autumn
