I am from Italy but I live in USA now and Fettuccine Alfredo ( now I know) it's not a real Italian dish. Neither is garlic bread among other things. penne alla Vodka I guess it depends form which restaurant, I tried them in a couple of different places, and those too were so different from how they are made in Italy.
But the biggest difference ever.....it's about Pizza.
In any case my favorite: tortellini alla panna, or pasta alla carbonara, not chicken carbonara which doesn't exixt in Italy, and dolce Monte Bianco! yummy

hi! I live in Italy and my favorite dishes are:
- pasta al ragù
-pasta alla carbonara
- pizza capricciosa
- torta salata con spinaci

- arrosto di vitello
- pasta gamberetti e zucchine

I live in Bologna. Nothing is better to me than pasta and ragu. You could also go with Carbonara another favorite of mine. There are so many to choose from.

Hi! Well, I've never heard of Pasta Alfredo to be honest with you. It sounds like one of those dishes you'd get in fancy Italian restaurants abroad rather than in traditional ones. I lived abroad and I know that if you do want a good Italian restaurant you'll have to pay quite a lot for a decent meal. Anyhoo, here's my list of traditional and famous Italian pasta/rice dishes (aka 'primi piatti'):

- cannelloni ricotta e spinaci
- tagliatelle al ragù
- tagliatelle ai funghi
- penne alla boscaiola
- tortellini in brodo
- farfalle al salmone
- gnocchetti alla sarda
- gnocchi al forno
- gnocchi alla romana
- lasagne ai frutti di mare
- lasagne al pesto
- linguine ai frutti di mare
- maccheroni
- minestrone
- orecchiette
- pappa al pomodoro
- pappardelle al cinghiale
- pappardelle alla lepre
- pasta al pomodoro e basilico
- carbonara
- bucatini all'amatriciana
- pasta e fagioli
- pasticcio di maccheroni
- spaghetti allo scoglio
- spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino
- polenta (ai finghi, al ragù, olio e cacio)
- polenta concia
- polenta pasticciata
- ravioli (al pomodoro, al ragù, al bueeo e salvia)
- risi e bisi
- risotto agli asparagi e zucchine
- risotto al nero di seppia
- risotto allo zafferano
- risotto con funghi porcini
- risotto al tartufo
- risotto primavera
- timballo di riso
- sformato di riso
- strangolapreti
- tagliolini al cartoccio
- tagliolini al forno
- tagliolini con la bottarga
- zuppa di farro
- .................... and so on and so forth...

The variety of dishes can also very much depends on the fact that a restaurant might serve only regional dishes.

Buon appetito and happy birthday!

Ellie
