When I went to Venice I found that it wasn't so much about doing stuff it's about being there and taking it all in. Doges Palace is interesting and you should vivst the prison part. Walking across the Bridge of Sighes is cool.
Doge's Palace won't take you all day though.
Ummmm...visit the Basilica di San Marco which is on the Piazza San Marco. I had fun just getting lost in the maze of narrow streets and bridges. You can visit some of the Murano glass factories. They are gorgeous. I would also sit out in that cafe that has the yellow chairs on Piazza San Marco. I had the most delicious cup of hot chocolate out on that piazza. You will ahve a great time. Don't worry about planning stuff because that's not really the type of city it is. Have fun! Oh and you should do alot of your shopping here. The shops are so charming. |

- boat line #1 from Piazza San Marco to Piazzale Roma (or vice versa) is a wonderful sightsee of the Grand Canal (lots of pictures to take of the historical palaces)
- go up to the top of the bell tower in St. Mark's square and enjoy a nice view on all venice (you see the lagoon, the islands, everything if the sky is bright)
- night at Musicanti club (a few steps from St. Mark's square; ask the hotel, they'll know) for a folklore night with music (it is not a dancing club, you sit and listen): a bit too touristy maybe |

i was there for a day and we accoplished alot. I suggest visiting Murano and Burano where glass is made. they are small islands but just as nice. also we took the vaporetto to the old gheto more by the train station and walked our way back to Piazza san marco it was a nice experience. our tourguide said ill see you all back only 2 of the 20 took the boat back. its a cool thing to see more how true venicians might live outside of the san marco area |

Go by the Accademia in the morning and then head over to the Guggenheim (in the same neighbourhood), have lunch there (great cafe / restaurant) and enjoy the modern art and garden. |
