Mr. Spontaneity

What are some good churches in Italy?

This is for an assignment. Avoid churches in Florence, Tuscany, Venice and Rome. I need a popular one that's NOT too big, which would have lots of pics on the Net.
Thankyou!

Here are some of my picks. I had to include one in Venice - one of my favorite. You'll have to do some of the foot work to find more images though.
Best of luck to you.

In Italy every town has a jewel. I can say of my town, Ravenna: San Vitale, sant'Apollinare in Classe, Sant'Apollinare nuovo,...

For mareeclara: Bologna is in Emilia Romagna.
Ciao!

Try 'Santa Chiara' in Naples... ;)

These two are both very popular, but are on the larger size. It was hard for me to think of a smaller, yet popular church.

Emeve already said my favorite church in Italy.
(Outside Rome, that is.)
Basilica di San Francesco in Assisi (Umbria) is an amazing church. It is a major destination for religious as well as artistic pilgrimages. Some of my favorite frescoes are in that church. It is famous for its paintings by Giotto.

Here is a link that has Photos as well as links to more photos.

Or you could Google "Assisi" for more, there's lots to choose from.

Another amazing and popular church is the Basilica in Orvieto.

It is amazing because it is a large and amazingly ornate cathedral perched atop a small hill town also located in Umbria.

Hope this helped you.
Good luck

You can tell il Duomo di Milano, that is a cathedral. Then th Catedralle di Pissa wuth the tower in a side. In Rome you can mention San PIetro in Vincoli, San Giovanni laterano, Santa Maria la Maggiore.
Then go to Assissi, San Francesco church. I San Giovanni Rotondo li Chiessa di Padre Pio (Now is a Basilic) I could mention 100 more. Hope it helps.

I am not sure if Bologna is in Tuscany, but there is a nice cathedral/duomo there and is quite impressive. I have no idea if its on the net much!
