Like Garrison said, the best way to get around is the tour bus. Tickets are about 20 Euro for a 2 day pass. You can get on and off as much as you like. On the bus they have headphones that you can pick your language and listen to a guide. The bus stops at all the major places you would want to see. The Colliseum, The Vatican, The Spanish Steps, The Trevi Fountain, etc.
