What are some words/phrases in italian that i should know when i visit italy?
However, it is very respectful and polite to learn some common phrases before you go. These are the very first things I learned when I moved to Italy:
Salve - hello (all times of day)
Arrivederci - goodbye
Quanto costa? - how much?
Dove? - where?
una camera singola/doppia - a single/double room
biglietto - ticket
1 uno
2 due
3 tre
4 quattro
5 cinque
6 sei
7 sette
8 otto
9 nove
10 dieci
100 cento
1000 mille
You can also use the link below to translate... it is good for getting the general idea of a website in Italian or translating individual words, but when it comes to translating sentences it isn't usually perfect.

That's not easy to answer here. I'd recommend you try buying the Lonely Planet Phrase Book - Italian. I've included the link to Amazon's site where you can get it cheap...used even if you want.
Still, one phrase that's really useful is "Dov'e il gabinetto"..which means "where is the toilet"...that's always good to know!!...lol.

I've been in Italy for about a year. Fly back home tomorrow. The book that's saved my life a few times is "Italian at a Glance" has all the phrases you could possibly need.
I would study a little before coming here though, and don't rely on just phrases. Italians are very talkitive and if you say a phrase they assume you know that language. It's best to learn the basics that you need and stick to english when you're in an unsure situation.
