Florence's finest is the Uffizi. It houses paintings, drawings and sculpture. Famous paintings include; Primavera, The Birth of Venus, Adoration of the Magi, The Duke and Duchess of Urbino, Medusa and The Venus of Urbino. Buy tickets in advance or be prepared to cue for hours. The Accademia in Florence is the place to see Michelangelo's David, The Bargello to see Donatello's David, The Palazzo Vecchio to see the Salon of Lillies and Verrochio's Putti. There's also the Pitti Palace, Vasari's corridor, The Museum of the Story of the Duomo, Dante Aligheri's house. Santa Croce for Dante's, Gallileo's and Michelangelo's tombs.

Rome has the Vatican Museums which include the Raphael rooms and the Sistine Chapel. The Gallery Borghese which is home to many of Bernini's sculptures. There are also the Capitoline Museums, a museum of Napoleon etc.

Venice has the Accadenia and the Peggy Gugennheim.

Milan has the Pinoteca.

Naples, the archelogical museum with artifacts from Pompei and Herculaneum.

This is a very simplified list an includes only a few. Try an Eyewitness Travel Guide as they are superb alternatively these web pages.

Buon fortuna

Depends on where in Italy you are going--the Uffizi in Florence is one of the best museums in the world for it's fantastic collection of sculptures and paintings. In Rome, the Vatican Museum has some incredible art on display. Happy Travels!

Sorry I can't remember all of them.
Piti Palace is an old family museum.

If you can find a Fodors travel book, he is very detailed on every country.

The Vatican and other churches in Rome.

Uffizi in Florence is second only to the Louvre in Paris. Pitti Palace in Florence actually has 5 museums. Bargelo sculpture Museum in Florence. Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, home of Michelangelo's 'David' and other magnificent works. Capelle Medicee in Florence, has several, Michelangelo works and other wonderful works as well. Also, many churches in Florence contain wonderful art, for example the Duomo, Santa Croce, Brancacci Chapel, Santa Maria Novella. Casa Buonarote, Michelangelo's home, is a museum, and has many Michelangelo works and artifacts.

Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel in Vatican City (Rome) - incredible. Also there are over 500 churches in Rome. All contain art. The Museums of the Villa Borghese in Rome have excellent art. There are many others, too numerous to list.

Pinacoteca Brera in Milan is excellent. Sforza Castle is a museum, which reminds me of the Vatican Museums, but it doesn't have as many works, although it does contain the 'Rondanini Pieta', one of Michelangelo's later works. Again, some major works are in churches, notably DaVinci's 'Last Supper' in Santa Maria delle Grazie, and the Duomo, a Gothic masterpiece.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples has many artifacts from Pompeii, among other ancient treasures. Museum & Gallery of Capodimonte in Naples. Again, the churches, and Cappella Sansevero, home of the 'Veiled Christ'.

Correr Museum in Venice. Doge's Palace in Venice. Accademia Gallery in Venice. Peggy Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art in Venice. Also the Church of San Marco and many other churches in Venice.

Museo Nazionale in Reggio di Callabria, home of the 'Riace Warriors', Greek bronzes unique in all the world.

There are more, including several in Sicily, but I can't think of them at the moment
