What are the best places to visit in Rome?

I.Am.The.Storm.
Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, likewise, it's difficult to see all of the spectacular museums, sculptures, ancient ruins, fountains, etc in a short period of time.

This is my "Do NOT Miss" list, especially if you've never been to Rome before:

Trevi Fountain (don't forget to toss-in your coin!)
The Colosseum
The Vatican (regardless of religious affiliation)
The Vatican Museums
Sistine Chapel
The Pantheon
The Spanish Steps
The Forum
Castle Sant'Angelo

Have fun!!!

even with all that rome has to offer, a visit to st. peter's is a must! we loved all that we got to see on our trip, but that place blew us away. i will never forget how beautiful one building can be.

The Forum, Art and Antiquities Museum, Colesseum, Catacombs, the area around Via Appia (particularly the hill), Parthenon

In Rome, get off the metro at a random station and just wander... you'll get more surprises that way. Rome is a city that you have to discover yourself. It is different for everyone and there is no checklist. The whole city is a living museum.

It is not fair to the history of this great city if you just visit 5 or 10 destinations. Walking around in the streets of Rome is like living in a time machine; history is everywhere!

Probably the best guide to Rome is the Fonisol Guide. This page:

http://fonisol.com/rome/sightseeing.htm

is very well written and when u scroll down has some really cool hard to find facts on Rome.

I suggest you come to Rome with an open mind and a flexible itinerary. Most of the city can be covered on foot; u can get to whatever you like pretty quickly!

Monica
