Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, likewise, it's difficult to see all of the spectacular museums, sculptures, ancient ruins, fountains, etc in a short period of time.
This is my "Do NOT Miss" list, especially if you've never been to Rome before:
Trevi Fountain (don't forget to toss-in your coin!)
The Colosseum
The Vatican (regardless of religious affiliation)
The Vatican Museums
Sistine Chapel
The Pantheon
The Spanish Steps
The Forum
Castle Sant'Angelo
Have fun!!! |

even with all that rome has to offer, a visit to st. peter's is a must! we loved all that we got to see on our trip, but that place blew us away. i will never forget how beautiful one building can be. |

In Rome, get off the metro at a random station and just wander... you'll get more surprises that way. Rome is a city that you have to discover yourself. It is different for everyone and there is no checklist. The whole city is a living museum. |

It is not fair to the history of this great city if you just visit 5 or 10 destinations. Walking around in the streets of Rome is like living in a time machine; history is everywhere!
Probably the best guide to Rome is the Fonisol Guide. This page:
http://fonisol.com/rome/sightseeing.htm
is very well written and when u scroll down has some really cool hard to find facts on Rome.
I suggest you come to Rome with an open mind and a flexible itinerary. Most of the city can be covered on foot; u can get to whatever you like pretty quickly!
