I spent my honeymoon in Venice. It was a million years ago, but it seems like yesterday. And the beauty of Venice is that the city doesn't change. I go there very often still, and I can always feel that eternal aura. The charm of the city is its attachment to the past and to centuries of grandeur of the ancient Republic of Venice. Even the smell...in the summer especially is a trademark (being on a lagoon).
Depending on your finances, I would stay in a hotel with a room overlooking the Grand Canal. I would visit the Doges Palace, take a vaporetto (ferry) ride to the island of Murano to check the glass shops, another boat ride to Lido, and wander through the alleys and get lost, why not? What more romantic than getting lost in Venice. It's so small you can always find the way back...eventually. A Bellini drink at Cipriani's. San Marco's cathedral, and if you're up to, you can always climb the steeple: Fantastic view from atop. And then of course the mandatory gondola experience at sunset.
There are always museums with interesting art, if you are an artsy couple.
Restaurants: I would recommend "Sacro e Profano", not too pricey, but great food in a cozy atmosphere, and just walking there at night is half the charm.
Warning: Venice is generally very expensive. It always was and it always will be. Be prepared to use your wallet a lot. And don't forget a mandatory souvenir. |

I love the Doges Palace - it is amazing. There are also a bunch of things you can do for free. The best is to wander the alleys, you will feel like you are back in medival times. Just don't get lost which is very easy to do. |
