What cities should we go to in Italy? |
We're vacationing for 2 weeks. The first week we'd like a bigger city and the second week we'd like something a little less "typical", by the beach, and relaxing. We've been to Rome so we'd like to try someplace new. Any of the Italian islands would be fine too. Any suggestions? |

YES---I adore Bella Italia!
Go to Venice for the culture (SO different from Rome)
Go to the Amalfi Coast - most beautiful place I have been in the world --great beach, but GORGEOUS sights---so peaceful and relaxing
Good luck in your travels! |

I've been to Venice, Siena, capri, MIlano, Lido,Rome, Florence, The Vatican,Serrento,Mount Vescuvius,Naples, and other places I can't remember.I recommend all these places. Venice, it was too crowded and the sewage ran into the water, I was in the gondala and it it the wall in the narrow water street and you can guess what jumped into the boat. But Florence is bueatiful escpecially the ST.Peter's Bascillaca. |

My first time in Italia I was very comfortable wandering in Florence on my own: lots of international students, yet not as touristy as Venice. A nice smaller town is Sienna, near Pisa. Also, Lucca, a medeval city with a modern demographic edge. If you like to walk, try the Cinque Terre;we enjoyed Riomaggiore. You can go by boat or train, or walk several miles to the next village. All nice fishing ,beach villages. |

An excellent question. my girlfriend and I did a two week trip across italy several years ago.
Florence -> Excellent! Stay a few days.
Naples -> Excellent! Stay a few days. Do some day trips to Capri, Vesuvius, volcano ruined cities and the Valley of the Gods.
Palermo -> Excellent! Take the overnight train. I woke up in the middle of the night on the train on a boat.
Rome -> Excellent! But you said you've been there before. my best to the Pope.
Stay away from Venice. Overpriced and irrationally so. We hated it. |

Less typical? Go to Venice. It is unlike any place you've ever been.
Florence is great for the museums, and nearby Sienna is a nice place to visit because it has kept much of its medieval "feel".
I lived in Sicily for two years, so if you REALLY want to try something different, head down there. You can go to Mt. Etna, an active volcano, as well as visit the ruins from numerous ancient civilizations. See my source link for info. |
