What do you really think about Italy, my country? |
Additional Details 4 Elisabeth: well... you asked me if Italy is a good plece where to live... It depends where you decide to live ^_^ Probably, it would be better to stay in the countryside more than in big cities... Toscana and its small cities is wonderful or Umbria... Veneto too.

I think it has its problems, like every other country. I am not a citizen, so I cannot judge fully. The language sounds so beautiful, the food is amazing, and most often it is very beautiful. No offense, but I am not religious, and Italy is obviously predominantly Catholic, and many practice heavily, with the Pope and all. I think it has a lot of great history, as well as bad (i.e. wars). I don't think it has a bad rep though. what do you think? is it a great place to live? because i think most would agree its a great place to visit. I often wonder this about my country the U.S., since it gets so much negativity. |

A beautiful Country, full of History and friendly people. Good infrastructure, variety between regions. Wonderful Food and good wine.
Shame about heat and poverty in some areas, also normal problem with undesirable elements, again more so with teenagers and immagrants more than anything else.
Love travelling there |

When I think of Italy, here are some of the things that come to mind.
ROMA SPQR
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=wue_e1HSp5U
I live about one mile away from a Roman road here in S.E.London - it remains one of our most well organised and efficient roads - even after nearly 2,000 years.
Britain still has more Roman roads than modern motor-ways [Auto-Strada].
Of course, there is more to Italy than Roma.
Michelangelo's David
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-l2BMStRcg&feature=related
Luciano Pavarotti
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VATmgtmR5o4
The Vatican
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWGAlKfrfOw
Venice - there is a saying in English, "See Venice and Die" and this is based upon the belief that there is nothing more beautiful on Earth and in order to see greater beauty a person must die and go to Heaven.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq0_a-LCFEs&feature=related
There is millions more.
I'm going down to Sorrento in a couple of weeks time. This is mainly because my partner and me want some sunshine, which thus far this year in England, has mainly been absent from a Summer which is more like the approach of winter.
I don' la t parla italiano, ma ho trovato questo traduttore a Yahoo. Forse potete dirmi se la traduzione dall'inglese in italiano è comprensibile oppure no?

My husband is first generation Canadian from Italian parents so I am blessed often with true italian meals right here in Canada.
We took our children to Italy in 1998 and 2004. During those visits we enjoyed soaking up the mountains, Venice, Rome (once) , toured Florance, shopped in the street markets in little villages, sipped espresso in the cafes, devoured numerous gelatos and LOVED IT ALL. The best part really was spending time around the family we have there.
We couldn't believe the inflation that occurred with the introduction of the Euro. Last year we had relatives that came to Canada and shopped, shopped, shopped. Next year we will return to the country where time has graciously stood still. |

I love Italy, been there three times now. My favourite place was Naples, the people were the friendliest and most charming, and this was in a country where as a rule the people were friendly and charming. |

I was in Genoa one Christmas Eve, There wasn't a soul to be seen. I went into a bar and asked where everyone was. I was told that on Christmas Eve everyone stayed at home and played Bingo. I had a drink and watched old reruns of Laurel And Hardy Movies. Funny place, funny people!!!!! |

We were last there in June - this time we stayed in Malcesine, visited Venice again and went to the Opera in the Roman amphitheatre in Verona.
Only one complaint - could you please turn the heating down in mid-June? We had to spend most of our day in Venice sitting in air-conditioned bars eating pizza and drinking beer!!
I'd like to go back to the Vatican City and spend more time in the Church with the fantastic guide we had last visit, a couple of years ago; you see so much more when there is someone to point things out to you. (I'm not a Christian, by the way, so for the benefit of other contributors, it really is worth a visit whatever your Religion or not.)
The fact that we returned and will do again (if we're spared!) says it all. |

It's probably the most beautiful country I've seen in Europe - and I've seen a lot of them! I actually did not love the food (but that could be because I am a vegetarian). The culture and history were amazing. |

Anyone reading this...DON'T go to Venice. It stinks and is very over-rated as well as expensive! Lake Garda is a lot nicer for a holiday visit! Great food by the way - expect to gain a few pound while you are there! |
