Well, I love Italians. I am American born Italian and I just am so proud to have a root in the boot!

Every time I go to Italy and visit my family, I am amazed how beautiful everyone is and the great quality of life there. Un giorno spero di andare a studiare all'UniversitÃ Bologna.. ci sono stata e ne sono innamorata!

I am surrounded by Italians. I live in Naples. Neopolitans have no work ethic and are disrespectful to women.

For travellers...
In the north the people are more educated and into reading and literature. It is common to see young men at 18 going for a drink and discussing a book they read. When the are beside you they say goodnight and they are polite. Lineups are respected. People generally are not very nice to you to get a big tip in a restaurant. They just do their job which can be looked upon as snob by southerners. In the north most places are safe other than near train stations at night. When there is a soccer game, there usually isn't cops and army guards everywhere making it look like a war is going on which I saw only in the south, Naples and Palermo so far.
In the south it is typical to see the same 18 year olds farting in public and looking at every woman walking by in public making obscene remarks and requests. Generally, you'd hear a lot of swear words flying around and it's all about image ie body building especially in the Puglia area, there are many gyms. People are not as educated at least not mannerwise and they get beatings in public too (kids). Sicily is a rip off, the tourism there is out to get you, trust me. People are nice there only because they want your money, it's clear, you can test it. They don't know how to treat tourists. They will charge you the same price for a room that's an old hole in the wall as they'd charge you in a beautiful place up north which is cleaner and quieter and justify by saying, "aeya, it's a sicilia, bella sicilia!"

By the way, my family is from the south too so.. I think they are that way too. LOUD. Arguments with no justifications, it's just like that and they think that being fat is being healthy (poverty mentality) in some places. If you are talking about people in general..
In Calabria. Men do nothing unless they leave the city to work. The ones that stay there boss women to do things only women pretend they give the men the control but roll their eyes. They are proud. Too proud for what they have to offer and they are rude too and HARD headed as the myth goes. In Puglia and Molise area, people are lazier and love gossip and backstabbing, in general they live for this. Again, all about food food and who looks worse than my kids so my kids don't look so bad. There is a lot of drugs in this area too because of lack of things to do and work. In Rome, people can be snobs, people can be nice, I found the women to be rude (well I am a little competition for them but anyway!). In Naples, people are very friendly. Don't believe what you hear it's not the locals that rob you there it's the immigrants who came from other countries that do it. I hope this does answer you question.

Rent the movie, CIAO PROFESSORE, it can give you a good idea of north south italy and it's funny!
