The first things that come to mind when someone says Italy are fashion, delicious food, romance, opera, and quality leather shoes! There is a stereotype that Italians are very passionate and talk with their hands. Personally, I think there must be different types of people there as would be anywhere else in the world. I have not been there. In Europe, I've only been to France. Of all the other countries in Europe, Italy is one I would most prefer to visit.

i have lived in italy and i think it is a nice place, but the north seems very close minded...the south more open and friendly..thats my experience there. the country has changed a lot since the intro of the euro. i see italy as impoverishd and people more upset about their economic status and their salaries not enough to survive in such an expensive country...when i went back this summer i felt everything was so overated and overpriced...people where worried about wearing designer clothes, and being very superficial..but i love italians because im italian, but i no longer live there tho...
i miss my friends and my childhood, but im happy where im now, which is USA

e be Marco, pare che non siamo così disprezzati all'estero, almeno in Gran Bretagna...

Well, it was nice to read the other answers (I'm italian too), particularly the one where an answer says that we, italians, speak with our hands.. we always use them, maybe more than anyone in Europe to communicate..

I have never been to italy, although I have seen numerous pictures and some of them are so beautiful.. Venice has a significant beauty about it, I would love to visit there someday. On the question about italian people, I would be the stereotype to judge a persons character based on there country of origin, I don't know any italian people but based on what i've been told, i'm led to believe a majority of women look very slim and beautiful, as to fashion, all the new season of clothes, shoes and handbags are very up to date on some of the women seen on the streets.. There is just one thing I would like to mention or question..
Why do a number of men wear sunglases after sunset? Is it a fashion statement?

Italy is fabulous - I go at least once a year.
I like the towns, the countryside, the food, the art and the music. And I like the language as well - it is easy to learn and very expressive.
The people are always welcoming.

I think that they are a little racist in comparison to other countries such as Spain, England and all other civilised countries from Europe.
Although as you all know Italy is divided in 2 North and South... I like more the people from North Italy cause they are much more Intelligent and opened than the people from south that are very stupid, they live by the rules of the jungle and they think that they deserve everything when they really don't... They don't know how to drive either, they never stop at the STOP signs and they don't know the other street signs which is pretty dumb from my point of view.
