What do you think of Verona...?

Have you every been to Verona? In Italy? If you have, did you like it? [it's the city of Romeo and Juliet].
I want some advice for a trip there. I'd like every detail.

Verona was one of my surpises on my italian trip...in that it was lovely.
It has a nice setting and the romeo/juliet thing is around, but there is a roman feel with their own colloseum which has opera in the summer times.

I only had 1 night ( so I ate in my hotel as it was a little out of the town centre) but I really liked what I saw there and would definately love to go back and see it better.

Verona Italy is, after Venice, the biggest tourist attraction in the Veneto. On my list of the five best things to see in the Veneto it would be at number five...

I have put together a bit of a guide on my blog for you as I live near there:

For restaurants these are some of the best ones in Verona and nearby:

I live about an hour from Verona - it's a great place to visit. There are frequent events going on depending on when you're here. The Verona in Love festival is a three day event coming up near Valentine's Day. There are big horse and wine shows at the fairgrounds and many other festivals. If you come during the summer, you can go to the opera in the Arena which is an old Roman colosseum. The old town is pretty extensive and well preserved. There are several interesting churches and museums. The Roman museum on the hill above the old Roman theater is very nice. The museum that includes the tomb of Juliet is small, but very nice. Of course the tomb, Juliet's house, and Romeo's house are only representative of the period since Romeo and Juliet are fictional characters - they're still interesting. Be sure to see the tombs of the old rulers. The castle often has good exhibits.

Restaurants here are very good - especially if you eat somewhere away from the immediate area of the tourist attractions. The shopping areas are very good too.

The Italian people are wonderful where ever you go.

Verona is also a good base for day trips. There's easy access by train to Venice. Other interesting places to visit that are nearby include Padova, Trento, Mantova, and Ferrara. You can get to Florence by train in a couple of hours. Lake Garda is very close - there are several castles and Roman ruins around the lake and number of nice towns; I particularly like Malcesine on the north end of the lake in the mountains and Sermione on a peninsula in the south end of the lake. There's also a waterfall park at Molina in the mountains just north of Venice.

You'll have a great time here!
