What is a good hotel in Venice?

We will be on our honeymoon and want to stay before leaving on cruise. Want luxury hotel but don't have an unlimited budget. Convenient location.

venice has thousands of options: if you find a hotel you like on the canal, make sure you request a canal view room. same w/ the lagoon or a piazza, whichever you want to see, reserve w/ that view.

mostly where ever you choose you will be w/in walking distance to all sights...

you need to state a dollar amount re: budget for luxury hotel. expect to pay more than $200 per night for "luxury hotel". you may be able to find a very nice but not 5* for under $200 per night. compare online prices but also email the hotel directly & see if they have a better price or offer for your business. make sure a nice breakfast is included!!!!!

i really enjoyed Hotel San Cassiano - Ca' Favretto - this hotel is historic, w/ full breakfast & on the main canal!!!Venice
Santa Croce 2232 - Calle de la Rosa - 30135 Venice

Average double room rate per night:€ 160 more accommodation in Venice

A good source for hotels in Venice is http://www.venere.com/ You can sort hotels in a given city by location, price, rating by guests and other criteria.

It isn't clear exactly what your budget range is.

I stayed at the Selvadego during Carnevale this year and would recommend it. It's a minute to Piazza San Marco and close to the vaparetto stops to get to the port for your cruise. If that's out of your budget range the Hotel Violino D' Oro and the Duodo Palace are also very nice and are both close to Piazza San Marco and about half the price of the Selvadego..

See below - the Hotal San Barnaba is in a good location, good service and the rooms are quite nice.
You don't want to be on the Grand canal - too much late night and early moring noise. Nor do you want to be too close to Saint Marks because the crowds are less than romantic.

If you are on honeymoon then you need something special. I blogged about the two hotels I think are the best in Venice. You can check them out here -http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-more.com/luxury-hotels-venice.html
I felt that the first one in particular captures everything that makes Venice so special. It is a really wonderful place but I can hardly ever afford to stay there. The occasional long weekend for a very special occasion has to suffice. I luckily live in Italy and travelling to Venice is a four hour drive making long weekend possible.

The City of Mestre on the mainland may have better choices for you. The train is cheap enough to take into Venice.

Use Google Earth and view the area using many photos others have taken. Also watch the Bond Flims and "The Italian Job" with Mark Wahlberg, other films too.
