Gypsies are nomads who have connections to India. They look very much like Indians, and the language is similar to the Indian Languages-making many people believe that it originated from Sanskrit (the Latin of Indian Languages).
Europe treats Gypsies like animals. Europeans are basically racists to the bone (their citzenship laws are an example) and Gypsies have no home in Europe. They are particularly badly treated in Eastern Europe and Italy, where they exist in large numbers.
You hear liberals French and Germans and Italians and English talking about how ahead they are-but talk to the Gypsies and you will realize that they are worse off than the Blacks in the US. At least blacks have citizenship rights (sometimes only on paper, but still...). The gypsy childern don't have a citizenship. Even if they were born in Italy, they are not given Italian citizenships.
France, Italy etc. require a parent of that origin to get citizenship. If you are an American man who falls in love with a Chinese woman in Paris or Rome, and decide to live there and have a family there-do you know that your child wont have a French or Italian citizenship?
Gypsies are basically treated like animals in Europe. And dont let them tell you that they are lazy etc-this is all the racist losers of the world try to justify their miserable existence by putting others down.
Gypsy music is the basis for Flamenco-a dance music in Spain.

I think of gypsies as roaming from place to place, never really settling anywhere. They seem like a restless people. |

Gypsys were nomads from places in eastern Europe like Romania. Today they mainly steal and con people out of money. Thankfully we were forewarned about them prior to visiting Italy, we had quite an encounter with them in Pisa. They try to distract you with small children or by surrounding you and then they pick your pocket. |

If you're going to Italy, then be very careful and keep your eyes open! They will beg you to give them money and will follow you. They also try to give you "gifts" and then expect money in return. They're very persistent and will follow you until you give up. Also, they work in teams. So while one is distracting you, another is watching you trying to figure out where you are keeping your wallet. They hang out all the tourist locations throughout Italy, including the Vatican City, the Spanish Steps, Colosseum - basically EVERYWHERE!! Keep your eyes open at all times!!! |

Gypsies hit Europe many moons ago and it was hard for to them "root" themselvs as they were unaccepted. Most of them are Romany Gypsies from Romania but back in the day, no one would give them a town to call home because they had a different lifestyle. Early discrimination at it's finest. Therefore, bands of them were forced to rove about the country staying here, there and yonder. They have also been associated with the occult and this is likely what the unacceptance was all about. |

The ones I knew mainly camped, cooked and ate food, sang and danced, read palms and did odd jobs for a living. When I was a young girl in Germany, a caravan pulled into the old millstream down at the end of our property. They had beautiful old wooden trailers that were painted with scenes of their homeland which was Romania. They invited me to eat with them one night. Some played musical instruments, some danced and some sang. They ate food I'd never seen or had before, but it was pretty delicious. They went out during the day, leaving their camp unattended and their little trailers open. I thought they were doing odd jobs around the village, but the produce store owner said they took some veggies and fruit without paying. They didn't stay too long after that. They just didn't seem like the kind of people who would steal though and the produce man was rather mean spirited.
I also rented to 2 gypsy families when I lived in Pasadena. They worked for themselves fixing car bodies. They did it right on the street and did a pretty good job of it, too. But, they didn't have a license and weren't allowed to do it on the street. They moved their work site to an auto parts parking lot and made some kind of arrangement with the owner to continue their bodyworks there. |
