If you go in the north it can be still quite cold so bring with you all winters clothes: jumpers, coats, hats and gloves
In the south can be little warmer like 10 degrees more in average

anything dark and with a euro flair. it will still be cold so bring a jacket, like those nice wool button ups with the lapels.

See the problem is that America doesnt get Italian fashion until next year.

I was in Rome (Italy) in march 2007 - for a week
in this period we had:
- two sunny days - temperatures of 18-20 Celsius
- three cold days (with rain) - temp: 10-11 Celsius
- two "normal" days: 15-16 Celsius

My suggestion is to open "GOOGLE" or "YAHOO" before leaving and check "10 days weather" - you can find data about temperatures, wind, rain...and you can select the best clothes.

Don't worry nowadays you can wear everything you want in Rome. There's not a fashion to follow. This because italian fashion is very expensive and with this crisis italian people don't have money to dress in a elegant way.
So dress as in america.
During this period the climate is still enough fresh.
Here you can find some typical temperature in Rome.

I will be moving there soon and was worried about the same thing.

I went on to flickr. looked up italy, people, etc. And regular people/tourists, have photos up, and I looked for ones with people, and took a look at what they were wearing.

Not exactly helpful for this years styles, but it gave me an overall idea.

Black clothes. basic easy. Well made clothes. Nothing with sprarkles, or teenage looking stuff like is more common in usa. Simple, elegant.

But for warmer weather, jeans and a nice t-shirt. shorts, summer dresses.

almost anything. but the difference is well made clothing .

hi! i live in italy: in march temperatures are quite good!
i suggest you to bring some tshirts, swetshirts and jeans
then a jacket and tennis shoes

Wonderlady
It will be kind of cold then, but Italians love colors, be bold but stay fashionable at the same time. The latest fashionable Item are long boots. Get a nice pair of close fitting jeans a nice patterned or bright shirt and depending on the weather a nice (close fitting) jacket depending on the weather ) . Don't forget the boots! Sarai bellissima!
