traghetti is a man powered boat used by Venetians.

gondolas are for tourists (expensive at $80 for half an hour)

and the vapporetti are motorized water taxis and the cheapest way around town by boat ($8 per ride)

Gondola

BARROWMAN
The Gondola is the traditional single man-powered form of transport used on the canals in Venice. It is relatively expensive and for more economical transport a Vaporetto is recommended. This is a water-bus which operates, usually on a fixed route transporting passengers along the canals

Yes - Gondola.
And the only people allowed to act as Gondoliers are those actually born in Venice! And Gondolas are very expensive to ride in!

It definately IS a gondola, but the ones that work as ferries across the larger canals are known as traghètti, which I think means ferry.
