1. Sitting on the Spanish steps on Piazza di Spagna and beside Fontana di Trevi
2. Drinking cappuccino in the piazza Navona
3. Visit Coloseo
4. Walking along Via Del Corso street
5. Vatican and St. Peter's, the most magnificent church in Christendom

All roads lead to Rome...

The Vatican/Sistine Chapel-although it is actually considered its own city, it is part of Rome's neighborhood.
There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
Going to the Vatican is free and you can spend as much time as you choose there. Just be sure you dress properly or the guards will not let you in-they are very strict about the dress code-no bare arms or legs.

I hope the person who wrote Eiffel Tower was just joking, as that is in Paris, not Rome

go to visit the Vatican!
then u can also go to the Colosseum,
if u are going in this days, (and cheek before u go) then the house where was the Pope living in the past which is now the residence of the president is open for visit and its all free.
Rome is wonderful place very interesting just walking around and looking at the building and the people.

Gelato - at Giolitti - which will give you the energy for sightseeing! Be sure to ask for panna montata (whipped cream on top) - which is fabulous and free with your ice cream cone. I'm salivating at the thought. Enjoy!

Its a toss up...the vatican just beats out the gelato.

Oh lord, only 1 THING??? impossible! Rome is a huge city, one of the biggest in Europe, with endless possibilities for sight seeing.
If you like Dan Brown, his angels and demons mentioned a number of interesting places.

Well, when in Rome do as the Romans do: drink your cappuccini, and eat your fettucini!

I know you said 1 thing, buuuut thats like telling a kid to chose only 1 ice cream flavor! and Rome is one huge museum! most noteable sites: Colosseum, Vatican City, Forum, Pza Venezia, Pza Navona, Pza di Spagna, Pza del Popolo, Pantheon, Circo Massimo, the 7 hills (Capitoline, Paletine) nightlife instead is happening at Campo De'Fiori, Testaccio, Trastevere (heart of Rome, very old style). Make sure you check out the famous roads: Vai Appia antica, Via Veneto (exclusive expensive street known for its hotels and restaurants), Via del Corso: when here, be careful because its easy to empty out your pockets in Prada, Gucci, Armani, La Perla, D&G, Pinko and others. Then visit the newest area built according to Fascist styles, Mussolini's EUR. Here you have great museums and amazing parks! speaking of parks and museums Villa Borghese is not to be missed, especially for the art historians. Rome is also known for its empire and share of emperors: check out Hadrian's Villa.. and since villas in Rome are gorgeous, take a look at the villa of 100 fountains, Villa Pamphili, and Villa Aurelia! You should also stop by the aqueduct, as this is one neat invention still being used! Who can then forget the fountain of Trevi??? This one is particularly beautiful, where you throw a coin over your shoulder to make sure you will return! oh, and Besides St. Peters, you have also a glorious list of churches... but this is already waay more than just one thing.

oh, and after your cappuccini and fettuccini get a gelato!!! you'll love it!

and I almost forgot, Rome is very costly and these sights are time consuming in order to be fully enjoyed. It is trully amazing, and since there is so much you need to decide what you're most interested in: art, history, etc... Some museums (such as the Villa Borghese) need to be called and reserved. The Colosseum, I think is about ten euros, but for many places there are no entry fees (the piazze, forum, streets etc)
