Oh lord, only 1 THING??? impossible! Rome is a huge city, one of the biggest in Europe, with endless possibilities for sight seeing.
If you like Dan Brown, his angels and demons mentioned a number of interesting places.
Well, when in Rome do as the Romans do: drink your cappuccini, and eat your fettucini!
I know you said 1 thing, buuuut thats like telling a kid to chose only 1 ice cream flavor! and Rome is one huge museum! most noteable sites: Colosseum, Vatican City, Forum, Pza Venezia, Pza Navona, Pza di Spagna, Pza del Popolo, Pantheon, Circo Massimo, the 7 hills (Capitoline, Paletine) nightlife instead is happening at Campo De'Fiori, Testaccio, Trastevere (heart of Rome, very old style). Make sure you check out the famous roads: Vai Appia antica, Via Veneto (exclusive expensive street known for its hotels and restaurants), Via del Corso: when here, be careful because its easy to empty out your pockets in Prada, Gucci, Armani, La Perla, D&G, Pinko and others. Then visit the newest area built according to Fascist styles, Mussolini's EUR. Here you have great museums and amazing parks! speaking of parks and museums Villa Borghese is not to be missed, especially for the art historians. Rome is also known for its empire and share of emperors: check out Hadrian's Villa.. and since villas in Rome are gorgeous, take a look at the villa of 100 fountains, Villa Pamphili, and Villa Aurelia! You should also stop by the aqueduct, as this is one neat invention still being used! Who can then forget the fountain of Trevi??? This one is particularly beautiful, where you throw a coin over your shoulder to make sure you will return! oh, and Besides St. Peters, you have also a glorious list of churches... but this is already waay more than just one thing.
oh, and after your cappuccini and fettuccini get a gelato!!! you'll love it!
and I almost forgot, Rome is very costly and these sights are time consuming in order to be fully enjoyed. It is trully amazing, and since there is so much you need to decide what you're most interested in: art, history, etc... Some museums (such as the Villa Borghese) need to be called and reserved. The Colosseum, I think is about ten euros, but for many places there are no entry fees (the piazze, forum, streets etc) |
